Setback for Congress as Senior Office-Bearers and Hundreds of Supporters Join AAP

Chandigarh, Sept.29, 2026:-The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) received a significant organisational boost in Chandigarh as several Congress office-bearers, leaders and hundreds of their supporters joined the party during a special joining programme organised at the Aam Aadmi Party office in Chandigarh. Leaders who had held various positions in the Congress joined AAP along with their supporters, with party leaders welcoming the new members and stating that their induction would further strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level.

Among the prominent leaders who joined AAP were Advocate Puneet Chhabra, Chandigarh Congress District Vice-President Dheeraj Kumar, District Secretary Yuvraj Singh Aulakh, Chandigarh Congress Legal Cell State General Secretary Advocate Nikhil Thapar, State Secretary Advocate Dinesh Kumar, and Advocate Gagandeep Singh, associated with the Chandigarh Youth Congress. Along with them, a large number of Congress workers and supporters also joined the Aam Aadmi Party.

The programme was attended by AAP Chandigarh President Vijay Pal, former Delhi MLA Akhilesh Pati Tripathi, former Mayor and Councillor Kuldeep Kumar, Councillors Hardeep Singh, Jaswinder Kaur, Jasbir Singh Laddi and Anju Katyal, Chandigarh Observer Vineet Verma, senior leaders P.P. Ghai and Meena Sharma, Rural Wing President Jagpal Singh, Minority Wing President Shadab Rathi, and Media In-charge Vikrant A. Tanwar, along with several other senior party leaders and workers.

AAP leaders welcomed the new members and said that the strength of an organisation is not limited to electoral activities but is built through continuous engagement with the public and by consistently raising issues concerning local communities. They said that the joining of people from diverse social and political backgrounds reflects their desire to participate actively in grassroots politics and work on issues of public interest.

According to party leaders, AAP has been continuously working to strengthen its organisation up to the booth level, activate its workers and effectively raise civic issues concerning Chandigarh. The experience of the new members, along with their supporters and workers, will be utilised to further expand the party’s organisational reach and grassroots presence.

During the joining programme, the leaders said that AAP’s focus remains on establishing direct communication with the people of Chandigarh and placing their local concerns at the centre of its political agenda. The new members and their supporters were welcomed into the party and encouraged to play an active role in organisational activities.

The party said that organisational activities will be further intensified across different parts of Chandigarh in the coming days, with continued efforts to connect more people with AAP’s ideology and issues of public interest. The joining programme held at Punjab Bhawan was described by the party as an important step towards further expanding and strengthening the AAP organisation in Chandigarh.
