Talk on ‘Balanced Diet for Children and Women’ Organised at GGSCW-26

Chandigarh Sept.30, 2021:- Raahat, the welfare society of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh, organised an online talk on the topic 'Balanced Diet for Children and Women' on September 29, 2021 to celebrate 'Rashtriya Poshan Maah.' The month of September is celebrated as Rashtriya Poshan Maah across the country as part of National Nutrition Mission - a programme started by the government to improve nutritional outcomes for children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers aiming for holistic nutrition.

Raahat coordinators, Mrs Prabhjot Kaur and Dr Aradhna Mehtani, welcomed the Speaker for the event, Ms. Jasneet Kaur Malhi, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science, Guru Gobind Singh College for Women. Ms. Malhi educated the students about the importance and role of right nutrition especially for children and women. She asserted that a balanced diet with a combination of essential nutrients and calories is pivotal for the smooth working and growth of the human body. She also spoke about the significance of meal portions and their timing. The role of exercise in good sleep and in relieving stress was also stressed.

The talk was attended by the students of the college and mothers from neighbouring villages like Raipur Kala, Raipur Khurd, Mullapur, Sarangpur and Parach. Ms Malhi catered to their queries related to nutrition and cleared up their doubts.

The Vice Principal and programme coordinator, Mrs Prabhjot Kaur, thanked Ms Malhi for coaching the students on the benefits of a balanced diet.
