Mohali, August 20, 2026:-Shemrock Senior Secondary School, Sector 69, Mohali, successfully hosted the prestigious inter-school team debating competition, ‘Debate Mohali Tri-City Round-2026’, in collaboration with its organising partners. The two-day event witnessed enthusiastic participation from young speakers representing various schools across the Tri-City. The event commenced with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by a captivating Kathak performance presented by the students. School Principal Praneet Sohal warmly welcomed the guests, participants and young debaters.
To make the competition more engaging and enriching, several special activities were organised on the campus, including an exclusive ‘Ice-Breaker’ session, a speaking workshop and intensive debate sessions for the participating young speakers. Air Commodore Nitin Sathe (Retd.) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and shared inspiring thoughts with the students on the importance of effective communication, debating skills and confident public speaking. He encouraged the participants to develop the ability to express their ideas clearly and constructively.
On the second day, the teams qualifying for the quarter-finals and semi-finals were announced, followed by intense and thought-provoking debates in the ‘Sher Bachche’ and ‘Lions’ categories. The grand finale of the competition was held in the school auditorium. At the conclusion of the event, Managing Director Karan Bajwa and the Chief Guest felicitated the winning teams and Best Speakers with medals and trophies.
In a closely contested competition, Shemrock School’s team ‘Debatoholics’, comprising Lavanya Kaushal, Kavisha Khandelwal and Siddhi Seth, emerged as the champion in the Sher Bachche category, while another Shemrock team, ‘Taiwas 1’, comprising Priyanshi, Kyra Kaushal and Gurnidhpreet Kaur Brar, secured the runner-up position. In the Lions category, the team ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ from St. Anne’s Convent School, comprising Naitik Singh Nagarkoti, Myra Maudgil and Aahana Gupta, won the championship. ‘The Vocal Sapiens’ from Sri Aurobindo Public School, Baddi, comprising Anya Bhumbla, Dhanika Kundlas and Gopal Bansal, finished as runners-up. The winning students and teams were presented with trophies and prizes for their outstanding performance.
