Chandigarh, Feb. 21, 2026:-In protest against the anti-people, anti-youth, and anti-democratic policies of the BJP-led Central Government, the Chandigarh Pradesh Youth Congress today carried out an aggressive and decisive march toward the Bharatiya Janata Party's office 'Kamalam,' with hundreds of party workers participating. The march was led by Chandigarh Pradesh Congress President H.S. Lucky and Youth Congress President Deepak Lubana.
Hundreds of young activists took to the streets to express strong resentment against the BJP government. Protesters carried Congress flags and banners demanding that the Prime Minister make no compromise with the nation's interests. Demonstrators alleged that the BJP-led Central Government has betrayed the country's youth, pushed unemployment to alarming levels, burdened the common people with rising inflation, and weakened democratic institutions.
During the protest, speakers also raised serious concerns regarding the alleged "U.S. deal," claiming that it failed to adequately safeguard national interests. They alleged that the country's leadership has morally compromised and is suppressing every democratic voice to retain power.
As Youth Congress workers proceeded toward the BJP office, Chandigarh Police set up heavy barricades to stop them. Protesters were reportedly pushed back, subjected to a lathi-charge, and dispersed using water cannons. Despite the intense water sprays and baton charge, Youth Congress workers remained steadfast and continued raising slogans against the government. Congress leaders described the police action as a sign of a nervous government that has lost public support.
Several office-bearers and workers were reportedly injured in the police action, including Vice President Sukhdev Singh, General Secretary Sandeep Gurjar, District President Prakul, and youth leaders Sachin Galav, Harsimran, Atinder Rabi, Kapil Chopra, Deepak Jaiswal, Ravi Rana, Dheeraj Gupta, Amit Kumar, Ward President Shaddan, Vikramjit, Lekhpal, Ram Kumar, and many others. Congress leaders termed the crackdown a direct attack on democracy.
On the occasion, H.S. Lucky stated firmly that the authoritarianism of the BJP government will no longer be tolerated. Police batons and water cannons cannot break the spirit of the youth. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government are running away from the real issues of the people. No compromise with the nation's sovereignty and dignity will be accepted. We will fight this injustice decisively—from the streets to Parliament.
Youth Congress President Deepak Lubana said that the country's youth are struggling with unemployment, inflation, and a lack of opportunities. He alleged that the Modi government is jeopardizing the future of young people and engaging in political bargaining at the cost of national interests.
He further stated that when Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi attempted to raise serious national issues such as Galwan in Parliament, he was not even allowed to speak. According to him, this reflects the Central Government's reluctance to face uncomfortable questions and its weakening of democratic traditions.
The Chandigarh Youth Congress clarified that this protest is not a one-day demonstration but the beginning of a broader mass movement against the BJP's anti-people policies. The Congress leadership warned that if the repressive approach continues, the agitation will be intensified further.
The Chandigarh Youth Congress reiterated unequivocally that the struggle to protect national interests, the future of the youth, and democratic values will continue—no matter the sacrifices required.
