Orations on “Pharmacogenomics: Implementation in Medicine” Given On the Second Day of 42nd National Conference of ACBI

Chandigarh 27th November:- On the second day of 42nd National Conference of Association of Clinical Biochemists of India (ACBI)scientific activity started with the plenary lecture delivered by Dr. Helen Martin, President, Australian Association of Clinical Biochemistry who highlighted the importance of albumin in health and diseases. Thereafter, Awadesh Saran & Seth G.S. Memorial orations were delivered by eminent scientists, namely Dr. Tester F. Ashavaid (P.D. Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai) on "Pharmacogenomics: Implementation in medicine" and by Dr. Harish C. Joshi (USA) on "Microtubules, small plant derived molecules and uncontrolled cancer cell division". Dr. Joshi in his presentation emphasized on his findings of use of noscapinoidsin cancer treatment. The conference is being organized by the Department of Biochemistry at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research Chandigarh. 

Nine sessions were held in which over fifty papers by leading international and national experts were presented. More than hundred posters were also presented by the young researchers. The topic covered were "Molecular basis of genetic disorders, metabolic syndrome, and evidence based laboratory and emergency medicine, cancer biology, laboratory accreditation etc."

More than thousand delegates from different parts of the country and abroad are participating in this three day national conference. During the three day conference three simultaneous sessions are being organized where presentations are being made by national and international experts and young scientists are presenting their work with the help of posters. Latest advances in clinical biochemistry covering important aspects of molecular basis of various disease processes as well as applications of latest techniques and quality management of laboratory are being discussed in the conference. 

During the conference Prof. Rajendra Prasad, Professor & Head, Department of Biochemistry, PGI, Chandigarh, was selected as the President of the Association of Clinical Biochemists of India for the year 2016.
