"Centre for Social Work, Panjab University, Insaaf and Haq Foundation of ex-DGP Shashi Kant and Psychiatry deptt of-Mayo Healthcare Super Speciality Hospital, Mohali, have join hands to help the victim in every possible manner for treatment for all kinds of drugs.
Ex-DGP Shashi Kant said that drug menace is a burning issue from so many years as per a survey the number of young men died by drugs is more than those who died during terrorism. This issue cannot be taken more lightly. If today your child is not taking drug, it does not means he will not take it tomorrow. Remember the net of drugs is spreading daily. Parents need to be a careful lot and should know where to go for treatment, from all socioeconomic groups.
Dr Ambrish Singal, Director and Head of Psychiatry department, Mayo Healthcare Super Speciality Hospital, Mohali said that free treatment will be provided to EWS of patients by 'Helping Hand Campaign', in collaboration with Mayo Healthcare Super Speciality Hospital, Sector 69, Mohali. This campaign, starting from Chandigarh, will be taken to every district and village of State. Dr Singal, also added that youngsters under drugs are termed thieves, snatchers and antisocial elements as they have to arrange money in time at any cost for drugs. No body wants disrespect and such this types of names. We shall help the youth to restore their dignity – Under the 'Helping Hand' initiative, we shall treat them at a very nominal cost and If the patient is below poverty line – or falls in EWS, treatment will be free of cost. Expressing concern over rehabilitation centres, he added, "Rehabilitation centres are keeping patients as prisoners, where addicts harm themselves and the situation worsens day by day. They are patients not prisoners; they need good atmosphere, love and empathy.
In an interactive session of Helping Hand Campaign at law auditorium, Panjab University, Chandigarh, as many as 500 students participated. Artists of Asees Theatre Group and Government College of Commerce and Business Administration staged a skit to generate awareness about drug addiction.
