Chandigarh 01st June:- The Deputy Commissioner of Mohali, Tejidner Pal Singh Sidhu informed that during the crop season 1800 quintal Hi-Brid Maize seed at 50 % subsidized cost will be made available for the farmers. The same stands available at the office of agriculture development officer and the distribution of seed has been started. Tejidner Pal Singh Sidhu said that requisite arrangements have been done for ensuring availability of seeds to the farmers.
Tejidner Pal Singh Sidhu said that this season approximate 12 thousand acre area have been targeted for cultivation of maize crop. For which Hi-Brid seeds worth Rs. 3 crore will be provided to the farmers at subsidized cost of Rs. 1 crore 50 lacs. He said that farmers are being motivated to adopt crop diversification and new techniques consuming less water with more profit rather than traditional cultivation system. Tejidner Pal Singh Sidhu said that to ensure availability of Hi-Brid maize seed 10 distribution centres have been established which includes Kharar for Block Kharar, Banur, Saneta & Bhago Majra, Ratwara Sahib for Block Majri, Palheri, Khijrabad & Kurali, Dera Bassi & Lalru for Block Dera Bassi. Besides this farmers could contact their respective development officer for obtaining Hi-Brid subsidized seeds.
District Agriculture Officer Dr. Sarabjeet Singh Bains appealed the farmers to not to seed the Paddy before 15 June & Basmati also be not sown before 15 July. He said that crop sown before the prescribed time has not any impact on its quantity rather it consumes more water as compared to the other one. He said that during this season a target of 1500 acres have been set for direct seeding. Dr. Sarabjeet Singh Bains said that Hi-Brid maize seeds like Lakshmi-333, DKC-9125, PAC-751, LY558/4558, PMH-2225, TX-369 are available with the Agriculture Department. He said that to ensure distribution of seeds to the farmers block offices will remain open on all holidays Saturday & Sundays.
