Chandigarh, 30th August:---- To familiarize the students with the spirit of democracy in the wake of the upcoming National Elections 2014. The Department of Political Science, MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh organized an event on the theme 'Indian Parliament: the spirit of democracy'
The event was suffused with various infotaining activities. A quiz with a total of six rounds was gave the students a platform to inspect their knowledge and understanding of the system of Indian governance. Questions on History of Indian parliament, the election process, political parties, famous election slogans and unparliamentarily proceedings were included.
A thought- provoking speech on 'Changing role of Indian Parliament from one party dominance to coalition government' by Aakriti Sharma of BA 3rd year examined the changing face of Indian political practice. Power point presentations on 'Role of responsible and judicious voting in India' sensitized the students about their right to vote.
The winners of the quiz competition were DAMINI SAIN (B.Com – III) and Sumeet Kaur (BA-II) while Aakriti Sharma (BA-II) and Ekta Rai (BA – I) were the runners up. The principal of the college, Dr. Puneet Bedi, appreciated the endeavor and said that the judicious exercising of the right to vote betters the future of the nation.
