Chandigarh, 24th June: - Municipal Corporation,Chandigarh organized free Anti rabies vaccination camps for stray dogs in association with Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals,Chandigarh. In order to make the city rabies free and to implement the Animal Birth Control (Dogs) Rules 2001.
During the vaccination camps 795 stray dogs were vaccinated from April 2013 to 15 June 2013,370 dogs have been sterilized since January 2013 and 3246 pet dogs have been registered. According to Dr. B. K. Salwan, Medical Officer of Health,MCC that stray dogs suffering from skin diseases, wounds etc. were given immediate treatment and those who required admission were taken to the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Hospital for treatment. Information education and communication material was made available to the public for awereness. It was stressed upon that the stray dogs be owned and neutered so that their population remains under control which indeed are "Man's Best Friends
