Chandigarh, Oct.18, 2026:-The Joint Action Committee of Teachers, UT Chandigarh (Regd.), has announced a peaceful protest on October 20, 2026, at Rally Ground, Sector 25, Chandigarh, against the continued administrative indifference towards the long-pending legitimate demands of teachers and employees of the UT Cadre.
The JAC has announced that while Ravana effigies will be burnt in the evening as part of the Dussehra celebrations, teachers will hold a symbolic protest at 11:00 AM on October 20 by burning effigies representing certain officials of the Chandigarh Administration and the Education Department to express their resentment over the continued delay in resolving their genuine demands.
The JAC stated that several memorandums, meetings and protests have already been held before the Chandigarh Administration and the Education Department regarding various service-related issues of teachers and employees.
However, several important matters remain unresolved, causing widespread resentment among the teaching community.
Earlier, on August 4, 2026, a protest was held and a memorandum of demands was submitted to the Chandigarh Administration.
Subsequently, on September 4, 2026, the JAC organised a peaceful protest and march at Sector 17 Parade Ground and submitted a detailed memorandum to the Administration. Despite these efforts, the expected action on several demands is still awaited.
The major pending demands include:
Regularisation of Guest Teachers, Contractual Teachers and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) Teachers who have been serving for more then decades.
Release of pending Dearness Allowance (DA) and other financial benefits of guest/contract teachers that have been withheld for several months.
Full implementation of Central Government Service Rules in the Chandigarh Administration.
Restoration and grant of various service benefits to regular teachers that are currently being withheld.
An end to the alleged illegal continuation of deputation arrangements in the Education Department.
Resolution of other long-pending service-related issues affecting the rights, job security, promotions and financial interests of all cadre teachers and employees.
The JAC emphasised that these demands are directly connected with the service rights, job security, career progression and financial interests of teachers and employees. Keeping such legitimate matters pending indefinitely is neither justified nor acceptable.
Ranbir Singh Rana, President, and Shiv Murat Yadav, General Secretary, of the JAC urged the Chandigarh Administration and the Education Department to initiate meaningful and time-bound discussions with JAC representatives and take prompt decisions on all pending demands.
The JAC clarified that the proposed protest is directed against administrative indifference, unnecessary delays and the continued non-resolution of legitimate service-related issues. The programme is intended as a democratic expression of protest and is not aimed at causing personal harm or issuing threats to any individual.
The JAC assured the Chandigarh Administration and Chandigarh Police that the protest would be conducted peacefully, in a disciplined and democratic manner, while respecting the law and maintaining public order.
The JAC also requested the authorities to make the necessary arrangements at the protest venue to ensure traffic management, security and the maintenance of public order.
