Mohali, July 09, 2026:-With the aim of promoting adolescent girls' health and well-being while breaking social taboos surrounding menstruation, Shemrock Senior Secondary School, Sector 69, Mohali, organised a special Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Session in collaboration with Fortis Hospital, Mohali. The informative session was specially conducted for girl students of Classes IX to XII to equip them with scientific knowledge, boost their confidence, and create an environment where menstruation can be discussed openly without hesitation or stigma.
The keynote speaker for the session was Dr. Shweta Tehlan, Senior Consultant – Gynaecological Oncologist, Robotic and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon at Fortis Hospital, Mohali. Addressing the students, Dr. Tehlan delivered an insightful lecture focusing on the concerns and questions commonly faced by adolescent girls.
During the presentation, she explained various aspects of menstrual health, including the biological process of the menstrual cycle, the importance of maintaining proper hygiene, safe disposal of sanitary pads, prevention of infections, and the significance of adopting healthy menstrual practices. She also highlighted the need to dispel myths and misconceptions associated with menstruation through scientific awareness.
The seminar featured an interactive question-and-answer session where students were encouraged to ask questions in a safe and supportive environment. The participants openly discussed topics related to menstrual cycles, pain management, nutrition, physical well-being during periods, and other personal concerns. Dr. Tehlan addressed every query with empathy, medical expertise, and practical guidance.
Speaking on the occasion, School Principal Prarineet Sohal reiterated the school's commitment to the holistic development of its students.
