Chandigarh, Apr.18, 2026:- Highlighting the importance of liver health, Dr. GS Sidhu, associate director-gastro & hepatology at Max Hospital, Mohali, said that the liver is a powerhouse organ responsible for multiple vital functions in the body.
He said that the liver plays a crucial role in digestion, metabolism, detoxification, and immunity. However, the rising prevalence of liver diseases such as fatty liver, hepatitis, cirrhosis, and liver cancer has become a growing health concern, especially due to unhealthy lifestyles, alcohol consumption, obesity, and viral infections.
He added that unfortunately, liver diseases often go unnoticed until they reach an advanced stage. Common warning signs may include fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, abdominal discomfort, jaundice, and unexplained weight loss. It is important to pay attention to these symptoms and seek timely medical advice.
Early diagnosis and lifestyle modifications are important to prevent liver-related diseases, asserted Dr. Dr Sidhu.
He further said that many liver diseases progress silently, showing minimal or no symptoms in the early stages, making regular health check-ups and screenings essential for timely detection and effective management.
He said that adopting a healthy lifestyle is key to maintaining liver health. This includes a balanced diet, regular physical activity, maintaining a healthy weight, limiting alcohol intake, and avoiding self-medication. Vaccination against hepatitis and routine health screenings can also significantly reduce the risk of serious liver conditions.
