Chandigarh, Feb.18, 2026:-👌A delegation of the Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Committee today met the Deputy Commissioner, Nishant Yadav, under the leadership of its President, H.S. Lucky, and held a detailed discussion on several long-pending and pressing issues concerning the city.
The delegation clearly stated that many important matters remain unresolved before the committee constituted under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner, and that their early resolution is essential for the smooth functioning of the city's economic and social activities.
Among the key demands raised were the increase of FAR (Floor Area Ratio) in the Industrial Area; permission for additional storage space for booth owners; approval of box-type structures in Shop-cum-Flats; and permission for commercial activities in the basements of city markets in Sectors 17 and 34.
The delegation also highlighted the issue of collector rates in showrooms located on Madhya Marg being higher than prevailing market rates and demanded rationalisation. It further urged early resolution of the pending GPA (General Power of Attorney) matter related to city properties currently under consideration by the Finance Secretary.
Concerns were expressed over the issuance of notices for minor violations in cooperative societies, colonies, and various sectors. The delegation questioned the administration's rigid approach and appealed for a practical and humane outlook in dealing with such cases. It also demanded an increase in collector rates in villages and rationalisation of collector rates across the city.
The issue of denial of ground coverage to Showrooms No. 1 to 24 in Sector 8 was also raised, with a demand that these be regularised on par with other areas.
Additionally, the delegation placed before the Deputy Commissioner several other significant matters, including problems faced by gaushalas, utilisation of vacant government houses and shops, the growing parking crisis in the city, and land pooling. The Congress delegation also strongly demanded complete transparency in the proposed Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and raised the issue of share-wise registry.
Through the Deputy Commissioner, the delegation also submitted a memorandum to the Hon'ble President of India opposing the proposed amendments to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. It is noteworthy that the Congress party is opposing attempts to amend the MGNREGA law through a nationwide movement, and as part of this campaign, the Chandigarh unit submitted the memorandum today.
Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav patiently heard the delegation for nearly an hour and assured that the administration would make every possible effort to address the issues promptly and adopt a humane approach to provide relief to the people.
The delegation included former Mayor Surinder Singh, Pawan Sharma, Surjit Singh Dhillon, Gurpreet Gabi, Rajiv Modgil, Jasbir Singh Bunty, Nandita Hooda, Rajni Talwar, Vikram Chopra, Daljit Singh, Dr. O.P. Verma, Dilawar Singh, Vipanjot Singh Aman, Sonia Jaiswal, Achelal Gaur, Anand Walia, Jitender Yadav, Lekhpal, Mukesh Rai, Sadiq Mohammad, Asif Chaudhary, Dharamvir, Zahid, Parvez Khan, Sachin Galav, Ranjot Singh, and other senior leaders.
