Mohali, July 17, 2025:- Doctors at Livasa Super Specialty Hospital, Mohali, have successfully treated a patient suffering from the long-term effects of childhood burn injuries on the leg.
The patient, a resident of Jalandhar, had been living with unstable scars and recurrent ulceration in the lower leg due to burns sustained in childhood. Despite undergoing multiple surgeries and treatments over the years, he found no lasting relief—until now.
Dr. Nikhil Makkar, Plastic Surgeon at Livasa Super Specialty Hospital, Mohali, who led the treatment, shared details of the case.
Dr. Makkar said that the patient had developed chronic ulceration on the previously burnt area. We used an advanced approach that included hydro-debridement to remove damaged tissue while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible.
He said that following debridement, dermal substitutes were applied to create a strong, supportive layer over the wound. This was followed by skin grafting to ensure optimal healing and restoration. The results were excellent.
Dr. Makkar said that there has been no recurrence of wounds or ulceration, and the affected area has healed without any depression or scarring.
Discussing recent advancements in plastic surgery, Dr. Makkar said that reconstructive surgery has progressed significantly in recent years. A better understanding of the skin and muscle blood supply has paved the way for advanced flap techniques, grafts, and regenerative methods, improving outcomes for complex cases like this one.
This case is a testament to Livasa Super Specialty Hospital, Mohali's commitment to providing advanced medical care using the latest techniques to deliver the best outcomes for patients across the region.
