Skipper Manan’s Ton Powered UT Boys to Win against Mizoram by Six Wickets

Chandigarh, Dec.26, 2024:-UT boys registered their first win at the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy match being played in Vizianagaram (Andhra Pradesh) by defeating Mizoram by six wickets. Centurion and skipper Manan Vohra aptly supported by Ankit Kaushik rescued the team to chase down the challenge of 170.   

Earlier, Chandigarh won the toss and invited the opposition team to bat first. Mizo batters had a tough time against the UT bowlers and collapsed at 169 in 36 overs. However, the team struggling at 89/7 got a strength from tail-ender KC Cariappa who smashed 41 runs off 14 balls with  six massive sixes and took the team to a respectable score. For Chandigarh, Nishunk Birla (3/40) was pick of the bowlers while Abhishek Saini and Jagjit Singh took two wickets each.

In reply, Chandigarh had the worst start of the season as well as tournament so far when the top order - Arsalan Khan, Shivam Bhambri, Tushar Joshi and Hardik Chaudhary returned without troubling the scorer. Reeling at 13/4, skipper Manan Vohra and Ankit Kaushik took the  charge and paired for an unbeaten partnership of 160 runs to team home in the 32nd over. Manan scored 101 runs with the help of 13 boundaries and three sixes while Ankit scored 58 runs studded with seven fours.

Chandigarh's first match against Tamil Nadu was abandoned due to rain while team lost its second match against Chhattisgarh. Chandigarh's fourth match will be against Vidarbha on December 28.
