Chandigarh July 30, 2021:- Committed to the cause of greener and sustainable Earth, the Department of Botany and Add on Course in Floriculture and Landscaping at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh celebrated the annual tree plantation festival of Van Mahotsav and World Nature Conservation Day with great enthusiasm. A plantation cum plant distribution drive was organised to mark the occasion. The aim was to spread the message of dire need for environmental conservation by practicing judicious use of the available natural resources and planting more and more trees so as to build a healthier tomorrow for the future generations.
The drive commenced with plantation of a tree sapling by the Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava. Plants including ajwain, akarkara, brahmi, stevia, harshringar, tulsi, aloe vera and neem were also distributed amongst the staff members. Following this, saplings of medicinal and ornamental relevance provided by the Department of Forests and Wildlife, Chandigarh Administration were planted in different areas of the college.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Nisha Bhargava said that these endeavours envision to spread the message of the need to plant more trees for gifting the future generations a cleaner and greener environment. Asserting that global warming, climate change, extinction of species, etc. are the result of indiscriminate exploitation of natural resources by humans, she said that the onus of reversing the damage done so far is on us.
