Sri Mukatsar Sahib, July 27, 2021:- National Commission for Schedule Castes (NCSC) took strong notice of the assault and threats to a SC Sikh woman, resident of Goniana, district Sri Muktsar Sahib, Punjab. The Commission, on the orders of its Chairman Vijay Sampla, has issued a 'reminder' notice to the Sri Muktsar Sahib District Administration asking the authorities to submit an action taken report till July 30.

As per the complaint received by the NCSC from—Manpreet Kaur, wife of Devinder Singh and resident of above said village—the victim has faced assault, caste abuse and threats on his life, from some influential men. Manpreet, who belongs to the Mazhabi Sikh community, informed that she had registered a police complaint against—Nirpal Singh, Sukhdev Singh and Sherry (all residents of village Chak Suhewala, district Sri Muktsar Sahib) for assaulting and threatening her. However, the accused are rich and have strong political connections due to which police are openly threatening the victim to dismiss the case.

To provide justice to the victim, the Commission issued the reminder notice to Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Senior Superintendent of police (SSP), district Sri Muktsar Sahib, Punjab. Vijay Sampla said that the authorities had not submitted the action taken report on this matter even after the lapse of the stipulated period, when the notice was issued on July 12, this year.

In the reminder notice, NCSC asks authorities to look into the matter and to ensure that the said report is submitted to the Commission before the stipulated time period.

Vijay Sampla cautioned the officers that if action taken report is not received within the stipulated time, then Commission might exercise the powers of the civil court conferred on it under article 338 of the Constitution of India and issue a summon for personal appearance before the commission in Delhi.
