Chandigarh 08th August:- Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Nanhi Chhaan Foundation launched a week long Tree Plantation Drive in the tricity from Government Senior Secondary School, (GSSS), Sialba and Government Senior Secondary School, (GSSS), Mullapur, here today. The week long drive, supported by Swaraj Division, Mahindra & Mahindra and Bonn Nutrients Pvt Ltd aims to save the girl child as also protect the environment, featuring distribution and plantation of more than 500 saplings across 10 Govt schools across the tricity, mainly in Mohali district.
The drive was formally inaugurated by Harsh Mitter, Addl Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Govt of India (GoI) in the presence of Harpal Singh, Past Chairman, CII NR & Chairman, Nanhi Chhaan Foundation, Ajay Ghai, Plant Head, Swaraj Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, Dr Gurjeet Singh, Additional State Project Director, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Punjab School Education Board and Gursher Singh, Principal, GSSS, Sialba etc.
Harsh Mitter, Addl Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, GoI , shared that there is tremendous pressure on the environment. The growing population and urbanization is adversely impacting the ecosystem and disturbingthe balance of Mother Nature. This CII Nanhi Chhaan plantation drive gains much significance because both environment and Women have always been the greatest, selfless givers to society.
Harpal Singh, Past Chairman, CII NR & Chairman, Nanhi Chhaan Foundation said that the only way to enhance & maintain the quality of ecosystem is robust alliance amongst all stakeholders like the industry, citizens, Institutions, Government agencies, and civil society. Humans have been involved in acts of self-destruction by dangerously cutting forest cover and killing girl children through infanticide and foeticide. It is high time, we stopped this trend. Hence, we launched the Nanhi Chhaan initiative. Under this initiative, we aim to target on three aspects viz Care and protection of the girl child, Enhancing Green cover and Inter – Religious harmony.
During the launch, Harpal Singh on behalf of Nanhi Chhaan Foundation also announced donation of Rs 25,000 to Government Senior Secondary School, (GSSS) for development and maintenance of green cover inside the school.
Harpal Singh further shared that our foundation has received support and blessings of people and highest institutions from all faiths, be it the Golden Temple in Amritsar, St Thomas Church in New Delhi, Sri Govind Dev ji Temple in Jaipur, Ajmer Sharif, Dargah Nizamuddin, and various religious places and top institutions across 13 states of India.
Pikender Pal Singh, Regional director, CII NR, said that CII and its members are always committed and have primary invocations to save the Girl Child, Save the Environment and to Save Humanity through inter faith harmony, hence we collaborated with the Nanhi Chhaan Foundation in 2008. CII NR also celebrates 8 March as Nanhi Chhaan Day each year
