Chandigarh 22nd, August:--- A Special Sanitation Drive has been conducted jointly by the Sanitation wing and Enforcement wing of MC in Sector 17, 22, 34 and 35 today under the supervision of Rajiv Gupta, Joint Commissioner, Dr. B.K. Salwan, MOH, Kashmira Singh, Superintendent, Enforcement, P.K. Pushkarna and area Sanitary Inspectors. Total 14 Sanitary Inspectors and 7 Enforcement Inspectors were specially deputed on various markets.
During the drive, 122 Challans were issued to the defaulters for throwing garbage at unauthorized places under Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (Sanitation and Public Health) Bye Laws, 1999. Out of these 12 challans were compounded and Rupees 6000 have been realized on the spot. The enforcement wing challaned about 100 violators for encroaching upon the government land during the drive.
During the drive, the shopkeepers were educated to keep their surrounding neat and clean and to dump the garbage at the authorized place or to deposit the waste with the door to door collectors. The cleanliness Drive has been conducted to bring change in the mind set of the shopkeepers, rehri-phari owners and particularly with regard to public behaviour in keeping their
surroundings clean.
