Chandigarh, 27th August:-- Invest North 2013 conclave organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) at New Delhi saw enthusiastic participation from Government of Punjab and numerous domestic and global corporate. The Government showcased its focus sectors and mission based plans to create conducive investment climate in the state.
Hon'ble Minister for Industries, Commerce, Technical Education & Industrial Training, Government of Punjab Anil Joshi, invited potential domestic and global investors at CII Invest North to invest in various sectors like IT & ITes, agro & food processing, light engineering and textiles in Punjab. Ease of doing business is the top priority for us. To enhance this, Punjab has been working on mission mode, ensuring good infrastructure, particularly the network of good roads, rail and air connectivity. Punjab, moreover envisions being a power surplus state by FY15 and expects crores of investments pouring into the state", he added. He further added Punjab has traditionally been known as an agrarian economy, however our government is making all efforts to make Punjab as the Best Investment Destination. Our new Industrial policy features most attractive incentives, with special focus on MSME sector. We are also organizing the First Punjab – Global Investors Summit from 9 – 10 December 2013 at Chandigarh and I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to all join us at the summit.
Expounding the unlimited opportunities in Punjab, Karan Avtar Singh, Principal Secretary – Industries & Commerce, Punjab said that State government is taking important innovative policy initiatives and rationalizing the procedures and rules to facilitate investment. Punjab is the first state in the country to enact Right to Service Act; this will ensure time bound and deemed approvals for industry. Punjab is also launching investment campaign with focus on Regulation, Infrastructure, Skills, Enterprise and Sustainability."
Convening the vision of the Deputy Chief Minister, Sukhbir Singh Badal, N K Sharma, Chief Parliamentary Secretary – Industries & Commerce, Punjab said that the Government of Punjab would scout investments in sunrise sectors like biosciences, consumer electronics, micro biotech etc in addition to the focus sectors like textiles, light engineering, IT & ITeS and agro & food processing, which shall determine the Industrial paradigm of the state for good. Punjab Government also participated at the exclusive B2G meetings pertaining to the key projects in the state.
Sharing his experience in the state, Pankaj Munjal Co Chairman & Managing Director, Hero Cycles Limited said "Punjab works like a company, I must tell you that any issue in the state takes just 2 days to be solved. It is in Punjab that we are today producing 6 million bicycles of the total 120 million produced in the world; moreover more than 50 percent of our bicycles are exported to Europe and US. It is worth mentioning that any business plan in Punjab takes just 45 days to materialize. Punjab indeed is the destination with red carpet hospitality."
