Mohali 27th August:--The traditional cultivation of wheat and rice are proving uneconomical due to limitation of natural resources and requirement of more water for growth of these traditional crops. Punjab Government is emphasizing the state farmers to come out of the traditional circle of cultivating wheat and rice and motivating them to adopt cultivation of flowers, fruits & vegetables. It would further strengthen the farmers economically and subsequently the state also. While stating the same, Deputy Commissioner Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu said that farmers are being motivated to adopt cultivation of flowers, fruits & vegetables rather than traditional crop cultivation. In this regard, technical guidance is being given by Agriculture department and maize seeds are being provided to them on 75 percent subsidized rates.
Tejinder Pal Sidhu said that awareness regarding horticulture is being given to farmers to motivate them and a fund of 1 crore 51 lacs 70 thousand 6 hundred and 20 rupees, has been allotted under National Horticulture Mission and financial assistance to the farmers is being provided for adopting horticulture. He said that funds with lower interest rates have been provided for Poly house (tubular), Poly house (Fan & Pad), Compost making units, planting Material and pack house, in the district.
Deputy Commissioner said that a fund of Rs. 14 lacs 2thousand 5 hundered have been provided to make Poly house (Tubular), Rs. 96 lacs 22 thousand 1 thundered and 20 for making Poly house (Fan & Pad), Rs. 9 lacs 96 thousand for Compost making Unit, Rs. 30 lacs for Planting material & Rs. 1 lacs 20 thousand for Pack house have been provided.He said that loan at lower interest rates will be provided to villagers, who takes initiative for adoption of horticulture. Sh. Sidhu said that to develop the horticulture in district, lady farmers along with gents will also be made aware & technical training will also be provided to them. He said that Agriculture & Horticulture department will jointly organize a training camp at village level & spread awareness among farmers regarding benefits of horticulture, so that they could be motivated to adopt it easily. He said that timely technical guidance as & when required will also be provided to facilitate the farmers.
