Chandigarh 17th July:--To improve sex ratio in Haryana, the schemes being implemented in the state have started yielding encouraging results as according to the statistics of sex ratio of Sirsa district from February 2012 to February 2013 reveal that it is 915 females against 1000 males.
While stating this here today, an official spokesman said that 833 girls were born as against 1000 boys in the district during June, 2012 whereas 880 girls were born in June, 2013 and latest figures show considerable improvement in sex ratio in the district.
He said that District Administration has made concerted efforts in this regard. Directions have been issued to Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANMs) and ASHA workers working in rural areas that no laxity would be tolerated in registration of pregnant women and the percentage of registration of pregnant women has crossed over 90 per cent. As many as 13,542 pregnant women were registered in the district during the year 2012.
With a view to curb the menace of female foeticide, Mother and Child Tracker System was introduced in the district and 45 Ultrasound Machines were linked with this system. He said that these machines were being regularly monitored by the Tracker System. Also, the schemes and programmes aimed at improving the sex ratio are being publicized, especially in Gram Sabhas.
