200 SC youths get jobs under CII-NSFDC program

Chandigarh 24th July:-- H S Kingra, Chairman and Managing Director, National Scheduled Caste Finance Development Corporation, awarded CII certificates and job offers from various CII member companies to 200 candidates from underprivileged section of the society. These candidates belonged to SC dominated districts in Punjab namely Nawanshahar and Faridkot. CII and National Scheduled Caste finance Development Corporation (NSFDC) are jointly running this programme, under which, they would train and provide jobs to 500 candidates through CII member companies in 5 Districts namely Nawanshahar, Faridkot, Cooch Behar, Mednipur and Bagha. Young SC candidates were extremely happy with the skill training and job-offers in hand and were eager to make the best of the opportunity.

The valedictory ceremony for 200 candidates was organized at Nawanshahar and Faridkot, wherein candidates were trained in Hospitality, Retail and Healthcare trades. Mr Ravi Bhagat, District Commissioner Faridkot, said that such programmes are the need of the hour and Public Private Partnerships between institutions like NSFDC and CII should be encouraged for the benefit of youth from deprived sections of the society.

Mr DP Singh, Past Chairman, CII Amritsar Zonal Council shared that CII is actively pursuing Affirmative Action Agenda for the benefit of the youth from the backward classes. CII members regularly offer scholarships and organize supply diversity meets to boost SC/ST vendors and also train youth in Vocational Skills and making them employable.

Pikender Pal Singh, Regional Director, CII NR. said that Affirmative Action rests on four key pillars of employability, education, employment and entrepreneurship. CII has been at the forefront of promoting Affirmative Action for SC/ST within its members and society at large and this programme in association with NSFDC is one such initiative of CII which provides skills training as well as provides jobs to the candidates from the backward sections. CII is very actively advocating support for the SC/ST youth amongst its membership and working regularly with various stakeholders for their benefit.

 Prior to this, CII participated in the Sensitization and Awareness program held on 22nd July 2013 by NSFDC. CII had put up a stall in the program held at Panchkula, graced by Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Kumari Selja.
