On the other hand, 35 players who have excelled in gully cricket tournaments are also being made a part of this special trial. These players impressed the selectors with their bowling and batting during the tournament. Their trial is scheduled at Mahajan Cricket Ground, IT Park on April25.

Jai Krishan Singh Rouri, Deputy Speaker, Punjab Legislative Assembly, Govt. of Punjab as chief guest inaugurated Saksham 2023 (Sanrakshan Kshamta Mahotsav), a 15 days campaign to sensitise citizens about the acute need for petroleum conservation at Auditorium of Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration(MGSIPA), Sec 26. The theme of Saksham- 23 is 'Energy conservation towards net zero emission.'
Chief Guest, Jai Krishan Singh Rouri, while speaking on the occasion said that given that India depends on imports for over 80 percent of its energy needs, awareness campaigns like 'Saksham 2023' will go a long way in making people understand the need to save fuel.
SLC (Oil Industry), Chandigarh during his welcome address emphasised the need to inculcate the habit of saving petrol, diesel & LPG in day to day life.
Jitendra Kumar, SLC (Oil Industry), Punjab and ED & State Head, IOCL, Chandigarh while speaking on the occasion said that this campaign aims to intensify efforts for making people aware about the need for effective utilization of petroleum products.

Meanwhile the inaugural event of Saksham-2023, was marked by various activities including a conservation pledge by the Hon'ble Chief Guest, a Nukkad Natak on oil and gas conservation, and releasing balloons and flagging off of a conservation van followed by a signing on pledge board activity.
Officers from all oil industry, LPG distributors, retail outlet dealers, teachers, children, participants from transport and industrial sectors were present on the occasion.
During the campaign, activities on fuel conservation like cyclothon, walkathon, alternate fuel rally, nukkad natak, debate in schools /colleges and wall painting competitions & awareness by mobile van in Chandigarh & Punjab shall be held. In addition, the campaign will include an online pledge on fuel conservation, public seminars, fuel efficient driving contests, LPG panchayats covering safety and conservation tips.
On 8th May, 2023, the valedictory function will be held wherein prizes will be given away to winners selected in various competitions.
Chandigarh, Apr.23, 2023:-Team No. 20 won the Gully Cricket Tournament being organized by UT Cricket Association and Chandigarh Police by defeating Team No. 53 by three wickets in a thrilling encounter. In the final match played at Sector 16 Cricket Stadium, Team No. 20 chased down the target of 69 on the second last ball of the match. The winning team was awarded with Rs 51,000 while the runner-up team was bagged Rs 31,000. Both the semi-finalist teams were honored with Rs 11,000 each.
Earlier, Team No. 20 won the toss and decided to bowl first. Team No. 53 got off to a terrible start when both openers Karan (2) and Rahul (0) fell prey to Gulshan Yadav. Captain Mohd Shahban and Krishna done damage control with 28 runs partnership for the third wicket. After the dismissal of Krishna (17), other batters - Anas (0), Vijay (2), Maqsood (1) and Gautam (0) were went cheaply. Mohd Shahban (37 off 30 balls) was the top scorer and managed 68/7 in stipulated ten overs. Suryavansh (2/8) and Gulshan (2/10) took two wickets each.
In reply, Team No. 20 also got off to a poor start and were struggling at 13/2. The duo of Ruprapratap Singh (20) and Shaswatam (27) took the team to 55 runs. After the dismissal of Shaswatam, Harman (1), Mohd Zaid (0), Gulshan Yadav (6), Suryansh (0) failed miserably. But in the final moments, Rudrapratap Singh hit a boundary to win the match.
On this occasion, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, in his broadcast message congratulated the organizers for successfully organizing the tournament and called upon them to participate in the next edition as well.
On this occasion, representatives of the India Book of Records felicitated Gully Cricket Tournament for setting a record for the largest number of teams organized at a tournament in a single city.
Speaking on the occasion, UTCA President Sanjay Tandon said that the Gully Cricket Tournament was successful in meeting our goals and expectations. He said that 'Balla Ghumao - Nasha Bhagao' of the tournament has reached every corner of the city. Tandon said that our selectors, kept eyes on every match to pick the best talent from the tournament. The twenty cricketers have been selected which will be mentored by UTCA.
During the program, world-renowned former Test cricketer and former BCCI chief selector Chetan Sharma, associated with Chandigarh, said that through this tournament the youth got the best direction through cricket.
Expressing his views, Chandigarh Police DGP Praveer Ranjan said that Chandigarh Police is always trying to show the right path to the youth of the city and they will continue to organize this tournament in near future with the help of UTCA.
Mayor, Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Anoop Gupta and Home Secretary Nitin Yadav also expressed their views on the occasion.
Over 150 trees were planted in two phases with participation of students, teachers and other officials. The trees will help produce hundreds of KGs of Oxygen and will contribute towards green and sustainable India.
Alongside, poster-making activities were also organized for students where they actively participated and created some thoughtful posters around World Earth Day.
Naveet Jindal, Managing Director of Trident Paper, said that we have been working on environment protection and choosing sustainability since the very idea of Good Paper came. He is glad that we are able to contribute towards building a sustainable future for all through such initiatives.
He added that our efforts are aimed towards making this planet better and we will also plan more such drives in the near future so that we not just Save the Trees but also plant as many we can.
Prof. Harmeet Singh Saralch from the Department of Forestry, PAU, said that the idea of organising this plantation drive in schools is to make students understand the importance of planting trees and how their small contributions can lead to the betterment of this planet.
Students were also made aware of the threats that our environment is facing and what measures they can take to build a safer, greener and better tomorrow. The drive was concluded by distributing My Choice notebooks among students and staff members. Made from wheat straw, these notebooks are eco-friendly, good for students and the planet
The keynote address delivered by David Kusuma, President of World Design Organisation, on 'Designing a New Era: India's Impact on the Global Design Landscape' emphasized the need for India to lead the way in design and how design can be used as a tool for social change.
Azmina Poddar, MD at Accenture, moderated a panel on 'Putting Life Centricity and Sustainability at the heart of your choices'. Poddar emphasized the need for designers to create sustainable solutions that are centered around people's needs.
The panel discussion on 'Designing a Bold Future: Opportunities and Innovations in India's Design Landscape' was moderated by Ramneek Majithia and featured David Kusuma, Azmina Poddar, and Sachendra Yadav, a Cloud UX Solutions Specialist at Google. The panel discussed the importance of innovation and how design can be used to create new opportunities in India's rapidly evolving design landscape.
Fashion designer Masaba Gupta was the biggest star presence, delivering an insightful session in an interview by Sanyukta Shrestha on 'Fashion Forward: Charting the Course for India's Fashion Design Industry on a Global Stage'. While Gupta is the Founder-Owner of House of Masaba, a luxury fashion brand known for its fusion of traditional Indian textiles with modern silhouettes and designs, Shrestha is a Nepalese-born British fashion designer known for her sustainable and ethical bridal wear. In this talk, Gupta shared her insights on how India's fashion industry can gain a foothold on the global stage and how designers can use their creativity to push boundaries and break stereotypes.
Sudhir Sharma, Founder and CEO of Indi Design, delivered a talk on 'Design, Tech, and Culture: Future of Indian Design'. Sharma discussed the need for designers to embrace technology and how Indian culture can be used as a source of inspiration in design.
The second panel discussion of the day, 'The Design Revolution: How Technology and Innovation are Shaping the Future of Design', was moderated by Manpal Setia and featured Gagan Sahni, Head of Design at Absolute, Kireet Khurana, Indian Animator and Filmmaker, Sudhir Sharma, and Gopal Meena, Vice President – Strategy Initiatives, Chitkara Design School. The panel discussed how technology is changing the way we design and how innovation can be used to create new solutions to old problems.
The festival ended with a felicitation of Robin Aggarwal from TiE and Lalit Kala Akademi by David Kusuma, and a vote of thanks by Festival Director, Ankur Malhotra. The two-day Chandigarh Design Festival 2023 organised in academic partnership with Chitkara Design School was a resounding success, showcasing the power of design and how it can be used to create a better future for us all.
