Chandigarh 26th November:- Constitution Day was celebrated in Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh. A special talk was organized on the occasion and was delivered by Prabhjot Kaur, Head, Department of Political Science of the college. The students were enlightened about the Constitution of India, a truly unique document.
An essay writing competition was also held where more than 30 students participated with full enthusiasm and zeal. It was followed by an open house quiz, to acquaint students with the Indian Constitution and its salient features.
Vice Principal of the college, Harpreet Kaur, in her address, threw light on the significance of celebrating Constitution Day.

Chandigarh 24th November:-Maharishi Dayanand Public School, Daria, Chandigarh organized a workshop in which students learnt how to prepare paper and jute bags in collaboration with the Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration .The workshop was conducted under the guidance of Art and Craft teachers Mrs. Kiran Prabha and Mamta. The students were told about the pollution caused by plastic bags, which cannot be destroyed easily. These decreased the productivity of land and growth of plants. Plastic bags contain germs which become harmful when eatables are kept in it. Such bags also harmful for animals. Plastics bags pollute water of the rivers.
Telling about the utility of the jute and paper bags the students told that these bags are biodegradable and environment friendly. It does not emit toxic gases and harmful chemicals. These bags are useful for packaging materials.
Principal, Dr. Vinod Kumar said that the aim of this workshop was to train students for making paper and jute bags. He praised the students for participating in the environmental activities with zeal and zest.

Chandigarh 24th November:- Nine schools of the city participated in an intershool Spell Bee competition organized by Rotary Club of Chandigarh here today.
This is the second edition of Rotary Spell Bee Competition in which teams from nine schools participated this year, informed Club President Rtn A.P. Singh.
Rakshat Sharma of Class VIII of AKSIPS Sector 45, stood first in the Speel Bee Competition, while Riya Sharma of DAV Model School Sector 15 and Diya Jain of DPS 40 stood second and third respectively in the competition.
District Governor Rtn. Praveen Chander Goyal gave away the prizes to the winners, and said that this is a popular event that helps improve vocabulary of the children and correct usage of the language.
Project Director Rtn. Rashi Adlakha informed that two students each participated from nine schools including Ajit Karam Singh International Public School (AKSIPS), Sector 41 and Sector 45 branches; Bhavan Vidyalaya, DAV Model School Sector 15; DPS Sector 40; Maharishi Dayanand Adarsh Vidyalaya, Sector 22; Sri Aurobindo School of Integral Education, Sector 19; St.John's High School; and Siri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary Public School (SGHSSPS), Sector 40.
All these schools have Interact Club in their respective Schools, which is the children's wing of Rotary imparting leadership skills, and the Rotary Spell Bee was a part of the world-wide Interact Week celebrations, added Rtn Jatinder Kapur, Director Youth Services
Spell Master Vinod Kapoor conducted the Spell Bee competition while Rtn Prof. B.B. Goel, Rtn Dr. Upneet Lalli, and Rtn Promilla Nain, were the three members jury that judged the event.

Chandigarh 24th November:- Navsankalp association a student run organisation based in tri-city( Chandigarh) and completes its 12 years of service on 2nd of November. Till date Navsankalp has contributed 62 lacs and has saved 165 lives.
While interacting with media President Navsankalp Association, Shubham Sharma said that Navsankalp endowed the sum of 36000 INR to 4 year old girl named "Pari Chauhan" afflicted by "Global development delay with spastic diplegia (cerebral palsy) and is 95 % diseased" Pari medicated under "PGIMER, Chandigarh". Pari- is the d/o Pardeep Chauhan ( who has a seasonal occupation depending upon work available ) and Mrs. Sunita Devi (housemaker). Monthly wage of the family is 1000-2000 INR. The patient underwent her first seizure on 1st May 2017.
He added further that she was admitted to hospital on 7th July 2017 and the prolongation of the treatment is expected to go upto 5th July 2022 and initially the half yearly expenditure was paid off by the organisation. Rough estimation of her monthly medicines is 6000INR AND Navsankalp appealed the outer world to come forward and be a helping hand.
On this occasion Akanksha Gupta, General Secretary, Navsankalp Association, Ravinder Chaudhary and Kulbir Kaur along with the association team members were also present.

Chandigarh 23rd November:- रेजिडेंट वैल्फेयर फोरम, कैटेगरी-1, सेक्टर 51-ए चंडीगढ़ द्वारा सेक्टर 26 स्थित ब्लाइंड स्कूल के बच्चों के लिए तीन दिवसीय भजन संध्या का आयोजन किया जा रहा है, जिसमें पद्मश्री अनूप जलोटा, सूफी गायिकाएं नूरा सिस्टर्स व पीयूषा कैलाश अनुज (जुगल जोड़ी) भजन गायन प्रस्तुत करेंगे। संस्था की अध्यक्ष मनजीत कौर ने आज यहां चंडीगढ़ प्रेस क्लब में एक पत्रकार सम्मेलन में उक्त जानकारी देते हुए बताया कि यह भजन संध्या कार्तिक माह समापन महोत्सव व गुरुनानक देव जी के प्रकटोत्सव के अवसर पर आयोजित की जा रही है।
उन्होंने बताया कि यह कार्यक्रम पिछले चार सालों से आयोजित किया जा रहा है जिसमें इस क्षेत्र के लोगों के साथ साथ ब्लाइंड स्कूल के बच्चे भी भजन आदि का आनंद लेते हैं। उन्होंने बताया कि उनकी आरडब्ल्यूए को पिछले कई सालों से चंडीगढ़ प्रशासन द्वारा बेस्ट नेबरहुड पार्क अवार्ड से सम्मानित किया जा रहा है। इस आरडब्ल्यूए के पार्क व ग्रीन बेल्ट्स का बड़े जतन से रखरखाव किया जाता है जिससे यह बेहद सुंदर और साफ हैं। मंजीत कौर ने बताया कि उनकी आरडब्ल्यूए ने किचन वेस्ट के निपटान के लिए भी एक बेहद सटीक प्रणाली अपनाई हुई है।
उन्होंने कार्यक्रम के बारे में जानकारी देते हुए बताया कि पहले दिन 23 नवंबर शुक्रवार को अनूप जलोटा भजन गायन प्रस्तुत करेंगे। इस कार्यक्रम का शुभारंभ चंडीगढ़ के पुलिस प्रमुख संजय बेनीवाल आईपीएस करेंगे।

Chandigarh 23rd November:- As a landmark surgery, which is not regularly practiced in the Chandigarh tricity region, an 88-year old woman was successfully treated for the ballooning of aorta through a rare Chimney Graft Surgery.
According to Dr Gaurav Singal, Vascular Surgeon, Grecian Super Specialty Hospital, "The patient, Chhotti Kaur from Pattra village in district Patiala, approached us recently with an impending rupture of Thorasic Aorta (ballooning of the main blood vessel from the heart carrying blood to different organs of the body). She visited different hospitals in the periphery, but was referred to higher center for the surgery. The patient came to us and we explained her regarding the disease and its options. She had hoarseness of voice, suggestive of impending rupture of thorasic aorta. Open surgery was an option, but carried high mortality rate in view of the nature of surgery and age of the patient."
She was given the option of tackling the disease by endovascular method, means putting a tube through a small cut rather than doing a major open surgery. A stent grafting was done with a covered stent. The technical issue in this case was that the stent graft would have covered the blood vessel to the brain, leading to paralysis or stroke after the procedure. So the team planned an insertion of chimney graft into the neck vessel going to the brain along with the covered stent, which is called a chimney graft.
The aneurism was so big in size that we had to insert a chimney to avoid stroke after surgery. Post operation, the patient was fine.
Dr Gaurav Singal added further that this case was unique and rare because of age of the patient and complexity of the procedure. Chimney grafts along with a covered stent are used in patients who are considered as high risk cases in surgery.
Dr Shivpreet Singh Samra, Cardiac Surgeon and Managing Director, Grecian Super Specialty Hospital said that this surgery was only possible because of the team effort. The hospital is well-equipped to handle such type of cases in future also.
The patient has come to the hospital for follow-up. She came walking. According to her son, the quality of voice has improved and she is doing well.

Chandigarh 22nd November:- The Society of Nuclear Medicine, India (SNMI) is organising its 50th Annual conference, being hosted by the Department of Nuclear Medicine, PGIMER, Chandigarh from 22-25 November,2018.
The pre-conference session comprised of joint Continuing Medical Education (CME) lectures by members of the Indo-American Society of Nuclear Medicine (IASNM) in collaboration with the Indian College of Nuclear Medicine (ICNM). The CME sessions were focused on the highly relevant areas of Nuclear Medicine including PET/CT, PET/MRI and molecular - anatomic imaging correlation. Prof. Amol Takalkar, President IASNM and Medical Director, CMIT, BRF opened the CME session and spoke on the applications of PET/CT for post-treatment response assessment in various tumors. He emphasised on the ever-increasing applications of PET/CT in the overall management of different types of malignancies and the need for its judicious use. The sessions were conducted in two adjacent halls in a parallel manner and were well received by the audience. The delegates especially noted the rich academic content to be of immense help in their early career phase.
