JW Marriott in Association with Zomato Hosts ‘Foodie Meet-Up’

Chandigarh 22^nd September:- JW Marriott in association with Zomato, organized a meet-up of the city's food bloggers at Saffron, the Indian fine dining restaurant. Over 15 food bloggers from across the city attended the event, to discuss their shared love for food and swap tales of their respective culinary journeys. A first of its kind event in Chandigarh, this is an initiative by JW Marriott in association with Zomato to provide a platform for food lovers to meet and share their stories over a meal. The Chefs at JW Marriott engaged in a candid chat with the food connoisseurs across the city, to gather interesting insights on their tastes, preferences and nuances that work in decision making at the foodie's end. 

Talking about the foodie meet-up, Deepak Manocha, General Manager, JW Marriott Chandigarh said, that social media is constantly changing and it is important for us as a hotel to be up-to-date and knowledgeable about how social networking and media platforms influences our day-to-day business. DSK Hyosung registers 100% sales growth in 250cc segment

Chandigarh 20^th September:- Riding high on a great start to the year 2014 with the introduction of the much awaited real luxury cruiser Aquila 250 and robust network footprint expansion across the country, DSK Hyosung announced an astounding growth of over 100% year-on-year in their 250 cc segment (total of 375 units sold comprising of New GT 250 R and Aquila 250) during the period of July-August, 2014. Taglined as 'The Real Cruiser' the stunning New Aquila 250 was the first-of-its kind luxury cruiser in the 250cc segment which revolutionized biking in India with the looks, the attitude and superlative ride experience. Within months of its launch in February this year, the Aquila 250 received phenomenal response with close to 275 bookings within the first month of its launch. The New improved GT 250 R from the DSK Hyosung stable embodies the elements of advanced futuristic styling, sporty graphics and aggressive design elements like stylish new headlamps among others coupled with three attractive colour combinations. The new avatar captured the imaginations of new age speed aficionados, which is reflected in the robust sales growth this 'Big Boy' has garnered.   

Sharing his thoughts on the strong performance, Shirish Kulkarni, Chairman DSK Hyosung said that growth in terms of sales has been phenomenal for the previous quarter. We have witnessed around 80-90% year-on-year growth this year when compared to the same period last year. The 250cc segment has always been the fastest selling segment for DSK Hyosung, this year it has been the game changer with new launches coupled with evolving customer buying patterns and organic growth in metros as well as tier II & II cities, and overall positive sentiment reflected within the economy. In the next couple of months, we are aiming to achieve a sales target of 300 bikes per month and are quite confident of accomplishing the same.

SACC boosts campus startups:2nd Startup Weekend starts at CGC Landran

Chandigarh 20^th September:- Newly setup Startup Accelerator Chamber of Commerce (SACC) has stepped up its efforts to boost the campus startups and create a culture of entrepreneurship in the country in collaboration with its Seattle based partners Up Global. The first Startup Weekend, the 54-hour marathon session to help people transform their ideas into an enterprise, at Chandigarh in July helped grow 4 new startups which are already on their way to start operations.  SACC has lined up more such Startup Weekends in the region including one at Chandigarh Group of Colleges in Landran campus on19-21 September, at the University of Petroleum in Dehradun in 10-12 October, Shaheed Udham Singh Engineering College in Tangori on  31 Oct-2 November, and an all-women Startup Weekend at Chandigarh on 14-16 November. Rakesh Verma, Secretary Technical Education & Industrial Training, Medical Education and Research, Government of Punjab, was the chief guest and formally inaugurated the Startup Weekend.SACC is working closely with various institutions to setup Entrepreneurship Development Centres, having recently signed an MoU with SUS Tangori for setting up a Startup Hub.

Manipal Dhariwal, president of SACC said that our effort is to structure a complete ecosystem first in the northern region which is known for its enterprising spirit engaging educational institutions, youth, existing businesses, financial institutions, angel investors, to contribute to its growth. He added that to help the student startups with all necessary support system and working space, SACC is in the process of completing its incubator/co-working space in Mohali, and the winners of various Startup Weekend events are being offered free facilities for three to six months period to establish their startup.

SACC has built a network of mentors and investors who work with the young startups that emerge out of Startup Weekend events or even directly from various colleges to accelerate their process of setting up their enterprise.

Max Hospital Holds Workshop on Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

Chandigarh 20^th September:- A health work shop on Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) was held at Max Super Speciality Hospital (MSSH), Mohali which was attended by over 20 Cardiologists from the region. Speaking during occasion, Dr Sudheer Saxena, Director & Head Cardiology, MSSH said that there were many advantages of using OCT over intravascular imaging (IVUS) which was conventionally used to evaluate angioplasty patients.

Dr Sudheer Saxena, said that both OCT and IVUS were used to make measurements for lesion length and lumen size, but OCT has emerged as more accurate and was advantageous to interventional cardiologists thanks to its high-resolution imaging technique that offered microscopic visualization of coronary plaques. Talking about the advantages of OCT over IVUS, Dr Saxena informed that OCToffered clear, photographic quality images, as opposed to grainy, lower-resolution IVUS images. Many interventionists were confounded by the speckled IVUS images, which were sometimes difficult to interpret. Fine details, such as stent position and thrombus, could be difficult to detect through IVUS. Whereas OCT would give a clear picture on whether stent deployed in heart was endothelialized or not .

Dr Saxena added that moreover OCT and IVUS technologies were analogous in nature. Where OCT would use light and IVUS use sound waves into the vessel wall where the energy was sent back to the catheter to reconstruct an image. The wavelength of light was much shorter and much faster than to sound waves. For this reason, OCT has a resolution of 10 microns which was 10 times greater than of IVUS. He further remarked that interestingly in OCT images the Interventionists could easily see thrombus the blood clots in arteries of heart which could lead to blocking of heart vessels and thin-cap atheroma which give rise to heart attacks.

K 3 ARTS LAUNCHES PUNJABI SINGER SUMESH KAPILA

Sumesh is not the regular Punjabi Singer that music lovers in Punjab are accustomed to. Quite unlike Punjabi genre singers, he is armed with an MBA in International Marketing. Sumesh's debut song 'Ohda Naaa' was released at Chandigarh by the singer and top officials of K3 Arts.

 'Ohda Naaa's' music is by Jawar Dildar who is based in Mumbai and is a known name in the field having given music in famous Punjabi movies such as 'Putt Jattaan De'. Jaggi Jaurkian has written the lyrics. The song is a romantic track. It's about how a lover is not able to tell the world the name of his sweetheart, as his beloved has forbidden him to do so. The song is a soft single which is a great mixture of an enchanting voice & captivating music.  Gurpreet Kang, CEO, K3 Group, said that 'Ohda Naa' will provide a breath of fresh air in an Industry which has been ruled by mainly high decibel & loud music oriented songs. We took notice of Sumesh since he had won several singing competitions in the recent past. One of those competitions was the prestigious,  'National Integration Competition' arranged by Government of India in Varanasi (UP) where Sumesh won the best singer award. His talent noted, K 3 Arts decided to sponsor him.

 

Sumesh Kapila said that he comes from a village named Daghaur near Anandpur Sahib. Though he always wanted to become a Punjabi singer, he did not know how to go about meeting this objective. Champs team lifts the winner’s trophy of the 27th QC Circle Competition

Chandigarh 20^th September:- Champs team from Tata Motors India was declared the winner in the 27th QC Circle Competition  Preliminary 2014- 15 organized by Confederation of Indian Industry in Baddi. The 'First Runner-up Trophy' was won by Parivartan team from Mahindra and Mahindra and 2nd runner was won by the Prayas team of the Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. These teams will now participate in the Regional level Competition. Three consolation prizes were awarded to teams from Rockman Industries,Mahavir Spinning Mills and Secure Meters Ltd. Lait Jain, SDM Nalagarh, was the Chief Guest and gave away the trophies to the winning teams at the Valedictory Session. The Competition was attended by over 150 participants comprising of Workmen; Quality and HR heads from Industry, states the release.

While speaking at the Competition,Arun Rawat Chairman, Chairman CII Himachal Pradesh State Council said that the approach, the initiative and hard work of the workmen leads to concrete results. He also stressed the need of Total Quality Management in an organisation as it covers the overall quality of the product and not only of the end product. He congratulated all the participants for the commendable preparation and presentation.  In all, 18 Quality Circles made presentations on the specific projects handled by them at their work place. The assessment of the presentation was made on a weighted scale covering different aspects of the Quality Circle activity. The evaluation was based on factors like problem selection, analysis, solution, presentation, etc.

 The Panel of Judges included Mr C N Dhar, Past, Chairman CII Himachal Pradesh State Council, Mr Sanjay Gupta, Senior Councellor, CII- AVANTHA Centre for Competitiveness for SMEs and Mr Manoj Hande, AGM  - Quality, Lumonious Power Technologies Pvt Ltd. Quality Control Circles from companies like Secure Meters Ltd, Vardhman Textiles, Cadbury India Ltd, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors, Bharat Electronics Ltd, Maruti suzuki Ltd, Honda Motorcycle & Scooters India Pvt Ltd, Federal Mogul, Winsome Textiles, Gabriel India, Faiveley Transport, Rockman Industries and TVS Motor Company Ltd participated in this Competition.

LONG TERM FINANCING IN INFRASTRUCTURE NEED OF HOUR: KBS SIDHU

Chandigarh 20^th September:- Stressing on the importance to create urban infrastructure having multipliers, which further add to GDP of the country, KBS Sidhu, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Government of India said, that there is a huge gap in infrastructure required in the country. Long term financing has to be arranged for the due development of the required infrastructure. These multipliers, said Sidhu, contribute towards ease of doing business in terms of movement of goods and services. KBS Sidhu was speaking during "Infra Invest, 2014" Conference on Financing for Infrastructure and Real Estate Development organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, here today. The conference was aimed at taking a 360 degree view on trends, strategies, risks, and opportunities in Project Financing and attracting foreign investments for Infrastructure and Real Estate Industry in North India.

 Reiterating that funds requirement is huge, and that not even the central and state governments together can fund such huge projects as are required, Sidhu said, "An innovative approach is required which has transparency and capacity for speedy approvals. The preferred mode, he said is PPP adding PPP not as public private partnership but private public partnership.

Earlier, R S Sachdeva, Co-Chairman, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry said, that across the globe, infrastructure is the lifeblood of prosperity and economic confidence in the 21st century. MCM Organises Oral Health Care Camp

The camp was organized with the collaboration of Dr. Neetu Narula, MDS (Endodontist) and cosmetic dentist Med Centre Fortis Sector 11, Chandigarh. The dental check up camp was an extensive oral health drive where evaluation of oral cavity for aesthetics, lesions, caries, malformation or mal alignment of teeth was done. The health care experts also educated the students & staff regarding better oral health & hygiene practices. They also motivated the attendees for a regular follow up with their dentist. The students and staff showcased like enthusiasm and attended the camp. 

The principal of the college, Dr. Puneet Bedi, reiterated the old Punjabi adage which emphasizes the significance of oral hygiene and stressed the students the need to adopt a lifestyle which is in healthy congruence with our physical selves.
