Chandigarh Administration inks MoU with Rotary Club Chandigarh to Setup Health Education Center

Chandigarh 05th December:- Chandigarh Administration and Rotary Club of Chandigarh have signed a memorandum of understanding for setting up one-of-its-kind Health Education Centre in the city.

The MoU was signed by B.L. Sharma, Secretary Education, representing the UT Administration and President of the Club, AP Singh in the presence of V.P.Singh Badnore, Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT, Parimal Rai, Advisor to the Administrator, UT IG Sanjay Baniwal, former world president of Rotary International Rajendra K. Saboo and other senior officers of the UT Administration.

V.P.Singh Badnore commended Rotary's endeavours for this unique project and the first one in the country to be setup in the city, and said that this is a new beginning and Administration would like to partner with Rotary Club Chandigarh for its various other initiatives.

Former world president of Rotary International, RK Saboo said that the Club would be spending approximately US$ 300,000 (Rs.2.2 crores) for the Centre for which expertise, and know how shall come from US-based, McMillen Health Centre, located in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

This state-of-the-art Health Education Centre is meant to educate school students about fundamentals  of medical science, human physiology, and  would also serve as Training Centre to impart training to master trainers as well as teachers, informed former world president of Rotary International Rajendra K Saboo who had conceived the project.

Chandigarh Administration has decided to setup this Centre in Government Model High School, Sector 22C, in the first phase, and later a site would be identified by a committee comprising representatives of the Engineering, and Architecture departments and the District Education Officer.

It would also work as centre of excellence in providing basic medical education, health checkup and training, and would be managed by a team of administrative staff, team of doctors and experts under a society which shall have Advisor to the Administrator as Chairman while Home, Health, Finance and Education Secretaries of the Chandigarh Administration as members along with various other members from various departments as well as the head of the PGI, and two members of the Rotary Club.

CPCB Environmental Training Programme on Indoor & Outdoor Air Pollution, Standards & Impacts on Human Health: Case Studies Begins at PGI

Chandigarh 05th December:- A three-day residential training programme on the 'Air Pollution and Human Health: Case Studies' commenced today.  Dr. Ravindra Khaiwal, Additional Professor of Environment Health, School of Public Health, Department of Community Medicine, PGIMER and Dr. Suman Mor, Assistant Professor, Department of Environment Studies, Panjab University are coordinating the programme. Over 40 participants from various pollution control board, including public health practitioners, medical professionals, environmentalists and researchers representing over 15 states are attending the training programme.

T.C. Nautiyal, IFS, Chief Guest of the event and Member Sectary of Chandigarh Pollution Control (CPCC) highlighted that there is need to generate the local evidence of air pollution as health effects depends on the type of pollutants. He stressed that it is important to build a collaboration of pollution control boards, health institutions and university to better understand the health risk of air pollution. Prof SK Mehta, highlighted that existing infrastructure of tri-city institutions and universities should be explored to support human health risk studies.

Dr. Ravindra Khaiwal, Organizing Secretary and Associate Professor of Environment Health highlighted that workshop aims to build capacity of the staff of Pollution Control Boards, researchers and scientists to conduct air pollution exposure and health risk assessment studies in their respective states as an aid to policy measure. He stressed that existing infrastructure of medical institutes, engineering institutes and universities should be explored to build a network of air pollution exposure and health risk studies.

Dr. Suman Mor, mentioned that there is need to build capacity of regional institutions to support National Clean Air Action Plan. She further stated that to build the capacity existing infrastructure of tri-city institutions and universities under CRIKC can be explored to formulate regional center of excellence on air pollution and health. 

Prof. Surinder Jindal, ex-Head, Department of Pulmonary Medicine, highlighted that air causes asthma and chronic bronchitis leading to an enormous health care burden in India and which can be prevented by controlling the associated risk factors.

Prof Arun Aggarwal, key speaker of the day highlighted that various health effects of air pollutants starting from respiratory discomfort to severe heart diseases. He also stressed that adverse impact of air pollution can be minimized through traditional yoga, pranayama and daily exercise. The first day of the programme also included the invited lecture of Prof. Harshal Salve from AIIMS-Delhi, Prof Vinayak Sinha from IISER- Mohali.

This environmental training programme will raise the knowledge about the air pollutants, exposure pathways and health effects to better plan the air pollution control strategies and their implementation to reduce the burden of air pollution related deaths and diseases. The progamme is being jointly organized by School of Public Health, Department of Community Medicine, PGIMER in collaboration with Department of Environment Studies, Panjab University (PU) and is sponsored by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)-Delhi. 

Delhi International Arts Festival Plays a Major Role for Sharing Culture

New Delhi 04th December:- A drum opera from China, Live Loop performance from Australia & a Hip Hop Performance from Canada along with artist Yash Kapoor all come together at the Marwah Studio. The 12th edition of Delhi International Arts Festival will have about 1,000 artists from 20 countries perform in 92 events to be held at 20 venues across the city.

Some of the artists travelling to Delhi for the festival from abroad, also have an Indian connect, and are elated to come here to perform, Said Sandeep Marwah President Marwah Studios on the inaugural ceremony of the Delhi International Arts Festival at Marwah Studios, Noida.

SSC Ex-Servicemen Crying for Justice: Demands Pension and Medical Benefits

Chandigarh 04th December:- For the sake of the country's  security, the SSC Ex- servicemen, who were part of the war of 1965 and 1971, are now wandering for their rights. To get pension and medical benefits, they had meeting with Defense Minister of the country as well as with COAS. But even after fighting for so many years, they have not received anything.

In a press conference organized at the Chandigarh Press Club, Captain Jaspal Singh and Captain RK Bharadwaj and other Ex Servicemen officer's said that they were joined under the Short Service Commission in the Army. After serving 5 years in the Army, they came to know that they are not entitled to all pension and medical benefits. Rather they are  civilian. So they cannot get all these benefits. To get their rights, they met Chief of Army Staff and Defense Minister twice, but all in vain. Even they did not get any proper response from them. They are also planning to meet with the Prime Minister's office to get their benefits as soon as possible.

He further stated that there are quite a number of SSC ex servicemen who won Gallantry Award. Many of them even received "Param Vir Chakra, Veer Chakra, and Ashok Chakra" etc. Captain Jaspal Singh said that he has been badly hurt by fighting for the right of his benefits. He said that they are struggling very hard to get their benefits, but no one is bothering to implement the same.

Robotic Surgery for Prostate Cancer Now Available at Fortis Hospital

Patiala 04th December:- In a significant boon to the health sector in the region, Fortis hospital Mohali has introduced the facility of Robotic surgery for prostate cancer, elevating it to become a centre of excellence for Prostate cancer in the region. A team of Doctors led by Noted Urologist and Robotic Surgery specialist Dr Priyadarshi Ranjan, at Fortis Mohali successfully conducted the Robotic Surgery, which was the first of its kind in the region.

The surgery was earlier done by open method in which the patients required a 20 centimetres long incision below the navel extending down till the pubic region. Now the traditional surgery has been replaced by the world class da vinci Robotic surgery in which the entire surgery is completed by small 8 mm incisions, with excellent recovery. The entire procedure is almost painless, bloodless and the patient is usually discharged on day two after surgery. Robotic surgery for prostate cancer provides excellent cancer control, minimal blood loss, excellent continence, erectile function and minimal hospitalisation.

The patient Ajaib singh, a resident of Sangrur was delighted by the outcome of Robotic surgery. With this now Fortis Hospital Mohali has also become the first hospital in the private sector north of Delhi to offer the services of Robotic Surgery for prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is one of the commonest cancer in males after oral and lung cancer and is a leading cause of mortality among men above 50 years of age.

In today's date prostate cancer is treatable in all stages with excellent cure rates, said Dr Ranjan. Elaborating about the symptoms Dr Ranjan said that early prostate cancer is mostly asymptomatic and almost all cases are detected only by active screening by a Urologist. As per recommendations, prostate cancer should be actively screened in all men over 40 years of age to be detected at an early stage, where treatment outcomes are excellent.

Sony SAB’s Aladdin: Naam Toh Suna Hoga Continues its Magical Journey

Chandigarh 04th December:- Sony SAB's Aladdin: Naam Toh Suna Hoga keeps scaling to newer heights with captivating storyline and a stellar cast. Apart from the rave reviews from the viewers for the show, the on and off screen chemistry between all characters is at its crackling best. This fantasy show, starring the very talented actors Avneet Kaur as Yasmine and Siddharth Nigam as Aladdin, is now set to up the scale with a newer twists that is sure to keep viewers hooked on to their TV screens. 

The current track of the show has got Aladdin and Genie (Raashul Tandon) working in the coal mine, in order to further their attempts of reaching the palace and clearing Abbu's name. On the other hand, Zafar (Aamir Dalvi) tries scaring people away from working in the mine. However, witnessing Yasmin's hard work and motivational speech, workers agree to continue working there. While Yasmin informs the king of her decision to change the security, Zafar fakes his resignation; which Yasmin declines and re-appoints him as Baghdad's Wazir. Now, with a new promotion, Zafar is driven mad with power and is set to lay out a trap for everyone else.

Siddharth Nigam playing the role of Aladdin said that he thoroughly enjoy playing the role of Aladdin Not only is it a lot of fun to shoot magical sequences filled with action, but he is also learning a lot from the character. He is humbled by the love audiences have shown us and it inspires me to work even harder to keep them entertained.

Avneet Kaur essaying the role of Yasmin said that for many years, she have followed the story of Aladdin and Yasmin's love and respect for her father has always stood out. And so, it's a great experience to portray this beautiful character from the fantasy world. The entire cast and crew have bonded really well, and we end up having a lot of fun while shooting.

Raashul Tandon playing the role of Genie said that everyone loves Genie! Hence, for him, it is even more challenging to get into character and at the same time, do justice to it. Working with such talented actors alongside provides immense motivation and in turn makes the show come alive with the story.

Aamir Dalvi playing the role of Zafar said that playing a negative role is very challenging, as it has lots of layers to it. He is quite enjoying portraying the character of Zafar as he has many moods to showcase. It's a fantastic experience being part of a show like Aladdin: Naam Toh Suna Hoga as every sequence brings with it, a new plot twist.

Chandigarh 04th December:- गांधी स्मारक भवन सैक्टर 16, चंडीगढ़ में नव स्थापित गांधी म्यूज़ियम अब शहर तथा आस-पास के क्षेत्रों मे लोकप्रिय होने लगा है। हर रोज़ देश तथा विदेशो से काफी संख्या में पर्यटक देखने आते हैं। अब शहर के स्कूलों के बच्चों ने भी आना शुरू कर दिया है।

यह जानकारी देते हुए गांधी स्मारक भवन के निदेशक देवराज त्यागी ने बताया कि आज सरकारी मॉडल सिनियर सैकेंडरी स्कूल सैक्टर 08 और 10 के बच्चों ने भ्रमण किया । यह म्यूज़ियम सभी स्कूलों के बच्चों को दिखाने के लिये प्रसाशक चंडीगढ़ की ओर से कहा गया है यह क्रम अप्रैल तक चलेगा। म्यूज़ियम देखने के मात्र 10रुपये टिकट निष्चित की गई है।

इस म्यूज़ियम का उद्घाटन माननीय वी.पी.सिंह बदनौर महामहिम राज्यपाल पंजाब एवं प्रसाशक चण्डीगढ़ ने 02  अक्टूबर 2018 को किया था। म्यूज़ियम राष्ट्रपिता महात्मा गांधी जी के बचपन से लेकर अन्तिम यात्रा की फोटो व वस्तुओं के माध्यम से प्रदर्षित किया गया है। म्यूज़ियम में राष्ट्रपिता के जीवन व भाषण पर फिल्म भी दिखाई जाती है। 

5th Workshop on Basic Epidemiology and Biostatistics Begins at PGIMER

Chandigarh 04th December:- A ten day course on Basic epidemiology and Biostatistics has started on 3rd December at School of Public Health, PGIMER. About 29 participants from all over India are participating in the course. Dr. PVM Lakshmi, Professor of Epidemiology, School of Public Health welcomed the participants representing faculty, residents and Ph.D scholars.

The participants shared their expectations from the workshop which includes understanding the concepts, planning a study, calculating sample size, data analysis on Epi-info software and presentation of results.

Dr. PVM Lakshmi said that the knowledge of epidemiology and biostatistics is must for researchers to plan and conduct quality research work. This workshop will help participants to understand the basic concepts of epidemiology and biostatistics through practical exercises. The participants were told about the evolution of epidemiology as a tool to understand disease processes and biostatistics as an indispensable partner to provide valid foundation for support of arguments. They were taught about the measuring health and disease and ways to present and summarize data.

Chandigarh 03^rd December:- चंडीगढ़ के सेक्टर 10 में सोमवार को अपकमिंग हिंदी मूवी लव# का मुहूर्त शॉट फिल्माया गया। फ़िल्म में मॉडलिंग के क्षेत्र में एक अहम मुकाम हासिल कर चुके आहान अग्रवाल और फ़िल्म जीरो में शाहरुख खान के साथ कैटरीना कैफ के बॉडी डबल का रोल कर चुकी आहाना नासिर बतौर हीरो व हीरोइन का किरदार निभा रहे है।

आहान अग्रवाल ने बताया कि वो डी एस ग्रुप के मुख्य ब्रांड कैच में, संजय दत्त के साथ भी एक विज्ञापन के साथ साथ नीलिमा अज़ीम के साथ भी बतौर मॉडल काम कर चुके है। उन्होंने बताया कि फ़िल्म का निर्देशन वैभव कृष्णरंजन ने दिया है। इसका डी ओ पी बॉलीवुड सर से रमेश स्वामी ने किया है। फ़िल्म में मोना दास, अनिल भारद्वाज और गगनदीप  सह कलाकार के रूप में है। आहान अग्रवाल ने बताया कि फ़िल्म की कहानी रोमांटिक है।

Deptt.of Social Welfare Women & Child Development Celebrates International Day for Persons with Disabilities

Chandigarh 03^rd December:- The Department of Social Welfare Women & Child Development celebrated International Day for persons with Disabilities at Government Rehabilitation Institute of Intellectual Disability today.

Secretary Social Welfare, B L Sharma distributed the Unique Disability Identity Cards to the persons with disabilities. Government of India, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Department of persons with Disabilities, New Delhi has launched a project called Unique disability Identity Card for Disabled (UDID).

Unique disability Identity Card for Disabled (UDID) project is expected to create a National Database for Persons with Disabilities. 17 persons were distributed Unique disability Identity Cards and the persons with disabilities present there were informed about the utility of the cards and it was also informed that the process of registration for Unique is disability Identity Card for Disabled (UDID) is being carried out in Government Rehabilitation Institute for Intellectual Disabilities, Sector 31, Chandigarh, Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Government Multi Speciality Hospital, Sector 16, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Sector 12, Chandigarh in addition to this services of uploading of data is also being operational in Asha Kiran, Sector 46, Bal Bhawan, Sector 23, Prayaas, Sector 38 and Senior Citizens Home, Sector 43 along with all the E Samparks of Chandigarh.
