Novelists include Khushwant Singh author of Sikhs unlimited, Mending Souls and Maharaja in Denims, Dr. Neelkamal Puri author of The Patiala Quarter, Dr. Jaideep Singh Chadha author of the other side of Golf and Please, Mom! It's my life and Marriage Rocks and Col. Navkesh Singh (Author of Golf Course upkeep)

'You tend to write about people and places that are close and familiar to you. It is important to write about your region and place you belong to', said Khuswant Singh. His latest book 'Maharaja in Denims' a fiction set in Punjab is about a Punjabi boy who believes he is the reincarnation of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Through this book, he touched all the incidents of India especially the episode of 1984.

 

Dr. Neelakamal Puri talked about the writing in 21^st century and said that writing is a craft that can actually be learnt by reading and writing. You don't need an inspiration to write.

 

Being a non serious as a student Dr. Jaideep Singh Chadha was constantly instigated by his father and remembers his words which said that 'Life sometimes hit you hard' which changed his life. His book Please, Mom! It's my Life has sold 70.000 copies.

CATS Celebrates ‘National Blood Donors Day’s

Chandigarh 01^st October:- Chandigarh Adventures Treks and Sports (CATS),  with CAN & WILL Foundation celebrated 'National Blood Donors Day's. Keeping up with the festive season, CATS have selected 'Ram Leela' as the theme for their 20^th blood donation camp, where donors chose costumes of their preferred characters from Ramayana to donate blood at the camp. The camp was held at Rotary Blood Bank Society Resource Centre in Sector 37 yesterday and today and 141 people donated blood. CATS also honoured their regular blood donors, including 38 Master Blood Donors, 10 STAR Donors and organisations who have participated regularly in the blood donation camps. CATS were joined by centurian donors Rajeev Manchanda (103 times), Jasbir Singh (151 times).

Kendall College and JW Marriott Chandigarh Host Master Class

Mohali 01^st October:- Kendall College, and JW Marriott Chandigarh, hosted a master class by renowned international Chef Christopher Koetke, Vice President of Kendall College School of Culinary Arts, and Executive Chef Pallav Singhal to raise awareness about culinary arts education and the different career opportunities it presents.

Chef Koetke, who is on a week-long visit to India, walked the participants through the preparation of an intricate duck recipe, incorporating flavours of the upper Midwest of the United States, including maple, wild rice, and a distinctive relish called Chow Chow.  He combined familiar cuisine with high end global technique.  Thiscomplex dish served as a vehicle to discuss culinary education essentials such as discipline, passion, technique, seasonality, internationality, local sustainability, business acumen, and artistic principles. Chef Koetke is the Vice President of Kendall College of Culinary Arts, which embarked on the sustainability journey in 2005. Kendall has developed a robust sustainability curriculum and guiding principles that are integral to both their educational programs and operational practices, addressing everything from composting and recycling to organic ingredients. Chef Chris also serves as the global vice president for culinary arts for Laureate International Universities. As such, he spends much time traveling the globe working with chef educators and students. In the capacity, he sees what is needed to prepare the next generation of culinary professionals.

Doon International School Celebrates Gandhi Jayanti

Mohali 01^st October:- Doon International School Mohali today celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with great enthusiasm and fervour.  Students were dressed in Khadi to show their participation and enthusiasm to mark the Gandhian spirit of non–violence and truth. Three monkeys of Gandhi Ji Bura mat dekho, bura mat bolo, bura mat suno were the main attraction at the moment. The purpose behind the celebration was to inculcate spirit of peace, love and goodwill among students. Students delivered speeches and recited poems highlighting Mahatma Gandhi's principles.  Dandi march and Quit India Movement staged by the students stole the show. A play on Gandhi Ji's life was also performed by the students, whereas dance on the tunes of Jai Ho was also showcased by tiny tots. At the last the song Vaishnav Jan ko was also sung by students to pay him tribute. Principal of the school, Manjit Mandira guided the students to follow the path of non-violence and truth. Tributes were also paid to late Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, whose birth anniversary also falls on this day. The students also took a pledge to follow the principles of non-violence and truth as advocated by Gandhi ji.

Director of the school C S Mann appreciated the great efforts of the young learners and aid that He was a selfless leader and suffered many hardships for the freedom of our country. PGI Organises National Voluntary Blood Donation Day

On this occasion, a total of 155 blood units were collected. Blood donors were awarded appreciation certificates and felicitated with specially designed badges, pens  with printed acknowledgement of  "Thank you for being a blood donor" and were awarded. Swachchha Bharat Abhiyan:MC Carries out Cleanliness Drive In Mauli Jagran

Chandigarh 1^st October:- The Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh today carried out cleanliness drive under Swachchha Bharat Abhiyan in Mauli Jagran, Vikas Nagar, Shivalik Enclave and Motor Market, Manimajra. During the drive garbage, horticulture waste and malba was removed and lifted from the open spaces. The cleaning operation was started in the presence of area councillor, Smt. Rajinder Kaur and other prominent leaders of the area of Mauli Jagran Colony and general public was also given health education and the importance of Swachchha Bharat Abhiyan. They were also apprised of the fact that polythene bags are banned in Chandigarh and they should avoid using the same in future.  MC Safai karamcharies were using specially made pokers to pick the scattered polythene and waste papers in and around Mauli Jagran Colony. Principals/staff members and students of the schools namely Govt. Model High School Mauli Jagran and Govt. Model High School, Vikas Nagar were apprised with the importance of Swachchha Bharat Abhiyan. Students of the schools were given health education regarding cleanliness as well as awareness rally was also conducted in the area to spread the message of cleanliness amongst the residents of the Colony. Pledge in Hindi was also administered to the children of schools about Swachh Bharat Abhiyan for keeping the area neat and clean.

Children of the schools were also acknowledged the importance of hand washing before taking meals and after defecation.  The technique of proper hand wash was also taught to the children of the schools. Special emphasis was given on cleanliness, safe storage of water and safe sanitation practices.  They were also instructed not to litter the garbage; it should be dumped in the garbage bins.  The dry leaves and garbage should not be burnt to prevent the environmental pollution.   The children were also told to devote two hours per week for cleanliness of their houses, galli, mohalla and surroundings. The school students have taken oath to observe cleanliness as per the instructions of the Govt. of India. Pamphlets regarding School Education Activities on Cleanliness were distributed to the Principals of the schools and they were requested to paste the same on their respective Notice Boards so that students may know about the cleanliness

Holy Wonder Smart School celebrates Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra

The celebration began with the students in singing Mahatma Gandhi's favorite bhajan Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram. Later, the students were enlightened about the Mahatma's messages i.e. an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind then students presented melodious songs and speeches dedicated to Mahatma  Gandhi. The students also made crowns and gadas as a part of activity to invigorate the essence of Dussehra celebration. A brief overview of the Mahatma's life and times and the contribution he made to India's freedom struggle were given. The children were also informed of the various tenets by which Mahatma Gandhi and Rama lived. His message of non-violence, truthfulness, amity amongst all, tolerance, respect for differences of culture and tradition and love for humanity were extolled  by Ashween Arora  Director of the School .The thought for the day was Mahatma's injunction to all Indians, Be the change you want to see.

Many academicians, industrialists and professionals were also present at the event. The seminar was initiated with a tribute ceremony to Management guru Late Prof. Satya Prakash Singh (1942–2009), Former Dean & Chairman, University Business School (UBS), PU; Mentor, Aryans Group of Colleges; Past President, CMA.

Rakesh Verma, IAS said that,the market today is filled with educated and unemployed youth, it is imperative today, that the students either possess skills to be employable or to be an entrepreneur, which is a new and major role for the educational institutions.

Dr. Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Group further shared his thoughts on how an educational institution could provide better learning and effective entrepreneurial or employability skills to the youth, workshops, trainings and industrial regime were few of the mentioned methods.

 

Dalip Sharma, while speaking on the occasion said that in today's competitive world, every company expects it's newly hired employees to do their job on the day one itself rather than spending time to provide them training.
