Mohali, May 11, 2026:- The Department of Medical Devices at National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Mohali, under the aegis of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme, inaugurated a two-week international training programme titled “Enabling Medical Devices Policies in the Global South” from 11th to 22nd May 2026 at the Convention Centre, NIPER Mohali, Punjab.
The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Dulal Panda in the presence of senior officials, faculty members, invited experts, and international delegates. Addressing the gathering, Prof. Panda welcomed participants from various countries and emphasized that the ITEC Programme is a flagship initiative of the Government of India aimed at global capacity building and strengthening international cooperation. He highlighted India’s enduring philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (the world is one family), which forms the foundation of such collaborative initiatives.
Prof. Panda further noted that over the past five decades, more than 225,000+ international professionals have been trained in India under various capacity-building programmes. He also elaborated on the broad spectrum of medical devices, along with the evolving regulatory frameworks and policy mechanisms governing the sector globally.
Prof. Inder Pal Singh remarked that this is the first dedicated ITEC course on medical devices being organized at NIPER Mohali since the inception of the ITEC Programme in 1964, marking a significant milestone for the institute.
Earlier, Prof. Tarun Sharma presented an overview of the 12-day course structure and highlighted the multidisciplinary nature of the programme. The inaugural day featured expert lectures by eminent speakers from Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi on emerging areas such as stem cells and biomaterials.
The initiative has brought together 25 international participants, along with researchers, policymakers, clinicians, scientists, academicians, and industry experts to deliberate on emerging technologies, regulatory frameworks, manufacturing practices, translational research, innovation ecosystems, and policy interventions in the field of medical devices.
The programme reflects India’s commitment to fostering innovation-driven healthcare technologies, strengthening international scientific collaboration, and promoting affordable, accessible, and sustainable medical device ecosystems across developing nations.
