386 Houses Served Fresh Notices: AAP Blames BJP, Alleges Nexus with Congress

By 121 News
Chandigarh, April 20, 2026:-A press conference was held today at the Aam Aadmi Party office in Sector-39, chaired by Vijaypal Singh, who welcomed members of the press and reiterated that the party continues to raise issues directly affecting city residents.

On the occasion, Omkar Singh Aulakh (General Secretary), Hardeep Singh (Councillor), and Yogesh Dhingra (Chief Spokesperson) addressed the media in detail, while Vikrant A. Tanwar (State Media In-charge) was also present.

Omkar Singh Aulakh stated that the ongoing demolition drive in Chandigarh has become a systematic tool to harass residents. He said that the action began on the 5th and moved sector by sector—first Sector 48, then 45. The sudden appearance of the BJP Mayor on the fourth day was merely a show. No one stood with the people until they began protesting themselves.
He further alleged that AAP councillors were present on the ground from day one, while leaders from other parties arrived later only to “take credit.” He added gutter that issuing 386 notices clearly indicates this is not isolated action but a planned drive.

Hardeep Singh termed the entire exercise an “election stunt,” questioning why such demolition drives intensify during election years. Hardeep Singh said that for the past 10 years under BJP, and before that under Congress, people have only received promises—never solutions. Once again, fear is being used as a political tool.
He clarified that the party does not support illegal constructions, but “selective targeting of residents is completely unjustified.”

Yogesh Dhingra said that the promises made by the BJP and the central government now stand exposed. He said that while people were promised housing, families who have lived here for decades are now being uprooted. Daily notices have created panic and sleeplessness among residents.
He added that even minor need-based changes are being labelled as violations to justify harassment.

Leaders informed that 386 demolition notices have been issued, with 38 new notices now served in Sectors 29 and 30, further increasing pressure on residents. They stated that during the initial demolition phase, AAP councillors stood with people for four consecutive days, whereas BJP and Congress representatives arrived later.

AAP accused BJP and Congress of an understanding behind the scenes, alleging that demolition is first allowed to proceed, followed by “sympathy visits” for political mileage.

The party demanded:

Immediate withdrawal of all 386 demolition notices

An end to repeated harassment through notices

Implementation of a clear and just policy for residents

AAP leaders asserted that the party has stood with the people from day one and will continue its struggle at every level.

They warned that if the demolition drive is not stopped, the people of Chandigarh will give a strong response in the coming time.
