Chandigarh 26th September:--- The administration is planning to build a college in Manimajara. The proposal has been approved in principal and the project is now at a stage of discussion where the detailing of the infrastructure is being done. The college would not only focus on traditional education but would also focus on increasing the employability of the students through vocational education. This was disclosed by Adviser to the Administrator, Chandigarh, K.K. Sharma, while inaugurating Government Middle School, Pocket No. 10, Manimajara, in the presence of V.K. Singh, Finance-cum-Education Secretary here today.
On this occasion K.K. Sharma said that enhancing the infrastructure for education is among the topmost priority of the Chandigarh Administration. He also appreciated the efforts of the architectural and engineering departments for creatively and rightfully using the resources. During his interface with the audiences he narrated an incident where a teacher from a different state who is now employed in the U.T. Education Department said that here teachers of the government schools work as hard as their counterparts in the private sector. This hard work and motivation of the faculty has added to the dynamism of our school environments. Mr. Sharma said that he and other senior officers were proud of the faculty who are putting in all their efforts to create the right environment for developing the future citizens of this country.
V.K. Singh elaborated upon the vision of the Education Department and said that this is the seventh school to be inaugurated out of the 20 planned schools. Work on another 15 schools is in progress and will be inaugurated in the coming one year. In second phase of making available quality infrastructure for education, the administration has selected sites for building six more schools and work on the same will begin at an appropriate time. Also, 5-6 more schools will be converted into smart schools in the near future. He added that another major concern of the Education Department, U.T., is to have enough qualified teachers. Through Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan a lot many highly qualified teachers were recently recruited. To further strengthen the workforce, a proposal to create about 3000 posts has been sent to the concerned Ministry and a reply to which is awaited.
