Mock-Drill Held at GMSSS-35

Chandigarh 22nd July:--A Mock-Drill on Earthquake & Fire was conducted in coordination with the office of the Deputy Commissioner-Cum Controller Civil Defence and Education Department Chandigarh Administration at GMSSS-35 here today. Various agencies like Ambulance, Fire, Health, Police, and Civil Defence Department were called into action during the Mock-Drill. Various teams of school students & teachers like Evacuation Team, Search and Rescue Task Force, Fire Safety First Aid Task force got into action at the time of the drill.

The Siren was sounded at 12:05 pm for one minute. It took 4 minutes to evacuate the school.  The govt. agencies reached in time and the entire mock drill took a total of 30 minutes. The sound of a siren was an indicator for the students to take "drop -cover –hold" position in the classes. Some of them were seen taking cover in corner. In no time at all the school's first floor and ground floor was evacuated and students were rushed to the safety of the school ground.

A vigilant team of teachers searched laboratories, toilets to rescue trapped students.  Mock casualties were given first – aid and also rushed for other medical services. The drill was a successful simulation exercise the police, ambulance, fire services and civil defence agencies arrived in the school within 10 minutes and became fully engaged in rescue operations.

Ms. Tanvi Garg, IAS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh Administration said that this exercise which has started from a government school is a big step towards preparedness against disaster.  She said that the same exercise will also be taken up in the other government and private schools of the city. She congratulated the school Principal, Mrs. Indira Dhingra, for being the first government school to have conducted the mock-drill. She also said that this would become a regular feature in all the government schools of Chandigarh.
