Chandigarh,20th July:--Chandigarh Senior Citizens' Association organized their fourth Annual Cycle Rally this morning to spread the message of "Saving Environment". The rally was flagged off by Naunihal Singh, IPS, SSP, UT Chandigarh.
Dressed in colourful attire nearly fifty of them - men and women averaging 70 years - hopped on to borrowed cycles with evocative messages like " Grow More Trees", "Keep Your City Green" etc. slung around their necks. They pedalled approx. 12 K.M. from the Karuna Sadan Sector11 to Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden and back, cheered on by morning walkers, school children and other on-lookers.
What made this year's rally different was that Naunihal Singh joined the rally on cycle along with other senior Police officers, who pedalled all the way, and the participation of approximately 100 school and college students, 50 children from Police families and about 200 Police personnel taking the overall number of participants to over 400.
According to Association President Daljit Singh Grewal this was in consonance with the on-going efforts tobridge the generation gap. In this connection, he mentioned the Inter-College Debate, frequent interactions with school students, financial support to mentally challenged and orphan girls and care of 100 adolescent girls.
Chandigarh Police made elaborate arrangements for the rally. The event ended with plantation of trees in Karuna Sadan complex.
