Chandigarh 25th July:--- Department of Forest & Wildlife, Chandigarh Administration in collaboration with Education Department of Chandigarh celebrated 'Herbal Day' in the campus of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sec.16 D here today. The function was organized under the patronage of Medicinal Plants Board and the Deptt of Environment and Forests. A nursery/herbal corner was inaugurated in the school premises by V.K Singh, Secretary, Education and Finance, Chandigarh Administration. He also planted sapling of 'Dal Chini'.
The school had prepared 1500 saplings of stevia, touch me not, sadabahar, gurhal, vacha, kapoor tulsi, behra, tulsi, sohanjana and kalmegh. 100 saplings out of these were distributed amongst Principals, Eco Club in-charges of various schools and teachers and students of GMSSS, Sector-16. The rest of the plants will be distributed among NGOs, different educational institutions and individuals of the region initiating a new chapter in GMSSS, Sector-16, Chandigarhs' eco-friendly endeavours, a new Herbal to create awareness about medicinal plants and their uses in our daily life.
V.K. Singh emphasized about the need of herbal plants in curing of our day-to-day health problems and exhorted school students to be sensitive towards nature and plant more & more tree so as to make Chandigarh a cleaner city.
The overall objective of celebrating the 'Herbal Day' is to sensitize the masses especially school children to generate awareness about the medicinal values of various plants available in nature and to make Chandigarh more clean & green city. The 'Herbal Day' is being celebrated across all Eco Clubs in various schools of Chandigarh.
The ceremonial function was attended by Santosh Kumar, IFS, Conservator of Forests & Director Environment, Kuldeep, DCF, Upkar Singh, DPI (Schools), Principal, Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sec.16D, and Principals/ Eco Club Incharges of various schools and Om Prakash, Coordinator/ Overall Incharge of all Eco Clubs.
