Chandigarh 05th October:- Dr Savita Malhotra, former Dean and Professor and Head, Department of Psychiatry at PGI, has been awarded International Contribution Award of the IACAPAP(International Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions) for 2016 at its meeting held in Calgary, Canada. The award is "in recognition of exemplary leadership on behalf of children and youth throughout South East Asia through teaching, advocacy, scholarly research and contributions to literature". IACAPAP is a confederation of national and regional associations and societies of child and adolescent psychiatry throughout the world.
This is an ultimate recognition for the work in the field of child and adolescent psychiatry by Dr Savita Malhotra in PGI and in India and Asia for more than 35 years. She has worked to establish excellent child psychiatry services and training in PGI; to develop professional identity and recognition of the discipline of child psychiatry in India; initiating the start of DM training in Child and Adolescent psychiatry in India; starting the Indian Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health; running School Mental Health Programme in Chandigarh; working for Indian Council for Child Welfare UT Chandigarh.
She was honored by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry last year for her global leadership in the field.
