Experts Deliberate on Fuel Efficiency at MCM

Chandigarh 11th February:- The Food Science and Microbial Food Technology  Department of MCM DAV College For Women, in collaboration with Petroleum Conservation Research Association  (PCRA) conducted an invigorating workshop-cum-training program titled 'Fuel Efficiency in Domestic Sector'. The objective of the workshop was to disseminate information and raise awareness about the contemporary issue of energy conservation.

Chandigarh Mayor Arun Sood was the Chief Guest on the occasion. In his inaugural address, Arun Sood praised this positive initiative of MCM and PCRA of involving the youth in the cause of conserving energy. Terming energy conservation as the need of the hour, Arun  Sood shared his vision of making Chandigarh a cycle city. Ms. Harjinder Kaur, MC Councilor, Chandigarh was also present on the occasion and she stressed upon the need to act as responsible citizens and join hands in conserving energy for our future generations.

Dr. Nisha Bhargava, MCM Principal and a subject expert on energy delivered the keynote address which was followed by presentations by various dignitaries. In an highly informative address, Dr. Nisha made the audience aware about the concepts of green buildings, energy audit and distributed generation for minimizing energy consumption and making our planet a better place to live in. RCED Director Dr. Paramjit Singh said that we need to understand that serious energy crisis can be averted by just following a  few wise and simple techniques. Referring to conservation as a grim synonym for survival,  Satish Sudhir, Deputy Director, PCRA elaborated on techniques of enhancing fuel efficiency,  latest energy saving ideas in domestic sector and encouraged the usage of green fuels to reduce pollution. Ms. Swati Gupta, LPG Sales Officer, IOCL shared insights about the safety measures to adopt while using domestic appliances and equipments including LPG. This was followed by showcasing of animated films on energy conservation. The PCRA officials also distributed literature on fuel saving tips, vehicular emissions and techniques of enhancing use of LPG-PNG. Thereafter, the participants, in an open house discussion, brainstormed on ways to tackle the problems of energy crisis and pollution.

Quiz and slogan writing competition was also held during the workshop. The winners of slogan writing- Jasmine (1st), Annu (2nd), Tamanna (3rd) and Komalpreet (4th) were awarded and certificates were given to all the participants. At the end of the workshop, the participants pledged to consciously conserve energy and sensitize others as well.
