Drive Safe, Stay Smart:Book on Safe Driving Released

Chandigarh 12^th February:- A Parents' Guide to Safe Driving for Smart Kitds of a Smart city, "Drive Safe: Stay Smart" by Dr. Guneet Singh was released here today on the Traffic Awareness Function at Children Traffic Park here today.

DIG Chandigarh A.S. Gill released the book published by Chandigarh Traffic Police,  and complimented Guneet for her research and the psychological perspective she has brought to the safe driving management.

Dr. Mark King from Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety, Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia, in the foreword to the book wrote, that though increased motorization is an indicator of country's economic growth but it comes at a cost, and too often that "cost is measured in lives lost and injuries sustained.

The new drivers all ages, he writes, lack role models and "it is time to ensure that techniques for fostering better driver behavior catch up with these developments in roads, law and policing."

Dr. Guneet said that parents are the first teachers to a child, and an adult need to speak or say anything to teach, it is the children who keep on watching the adults around them and emulate their behavior.  She said that it is essential that parents should not only correct their own driving behavior to instill the right behvaiour amongst their children, and should also play active role in teaching the fundamentals of driving, and road safety to their children.

Dr. Guneet Singh who is Assistant Professor (Guest Faculty) at the Department of Psychology, Panjab University, did her research on psychological factors that impact the driving behavior of youngsters.

With number of published research papers to her credit and participation in national and international transport conferences, Dr. Guneet assists the Chandigarh Traffic Police as a Traffic Marshal too.
