Chandigarh 13th January:- In keeping with its endeavour to empower women, MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh celebrated 'Betiyon ki Lohri'. The festivities of Lohri in a family have been traditionally associated with the birth of a male child but MCM celebrates the prowess of womanhood on this day to break the stereotype and revamp the context and essence of Lohri.

The festivities comprised of traditional Punjabi dances which had all the audience spellbound. The students proudly sported traditional attires like phulkari, jutti, parandhi etc and lead the onlookers to a memorable sojourn through the green pastures of Punjab. Melodious songs of lohri, bonfire and giddha were the flavor of the day.

The Principal of the college, Dr. Nisha Bhargava, lauded the exceptional endeavor. She highly commended the vision to celebrate the girl child on the festival by saying that an empowered woman is the foundation of a strong society and making girls feel important and cherished is the first step towards empowerment.
