Chandigarh 14th January:- Beer lovers of the city have a reason to rejoice as The Great Bear a new Microbrewery offering widest possible range of freshly made Beer announces its opening at City's hugely favourite Sector 26 market. It shall be a pleasure both for the connoisseurs as well as the occasional drinkers alike as the management has long experience of successfully running a Microbrewery.
While interacting with media, Amritanshu, the Managing director said that the name The Great Bear seems to a ring a bell to him as he visualise a giant jolly fellow who loves to have fun and holds his beer close to his heart. And his theme is. He said that good food and great beer is a passion of sorts.
Amritanshu further said that Microbrewery as a concept is fairly well known as people are fairly well travelled and have tasted beers at Microbreweries both in India and abroad. Beers serves are original in flavour, texture, body and smoothness and hence the name The Great Bear. There's Golden Ale, Weiss (wheat), German Bock, and brewer's special with each having a distinct taste of its own. Depending on the personal preference each has different levels of alcohol content likewise different taste and texture. He said that it is not just beer lovers have been taken care of; there is plenty on offer for those who love hard drinks. Wide choice in the form of domestic and foreign liquor, single malts, all time favourite cocktails, smoothies like Twix and Oreo shakes and imported wines too are also available. And to add to this, refreshing mocktails are also on offer for non drinkers.
With such wide range of drinks, the food really had to match. And living up to it, the food offers interesting melange of cuisines ranging from Continental to Mediterranean to Italian to British and lastly the exotic Indian fare. To elaborate a bit, there are succulent tikkas and kebabs, and for health lovers variety of salads like fattoush, shrimp salad and not to forget flaxseed grilled chicken salad.
Talking about appetizers, he said that there is a whole range of vegetarian options like tacos, falafel, cheddar bites, spinach and cheese fatayer.For non vegetarians there are plethora of options ranging from charmoula tikka, lamb and chicken kibbeh, panko chicken tenders and special tandoori and mustard prawns. He said that in Main course has diverse specialties - gnocchi, pasta in carbonara sauce, poulet roti au jus, chicken veracruz, okra pepper fry, Allepey fish curry, and bhuna gosht are to name a few.
With such special drinks and food, the desserts just had to be just as special. On offer are baked cheese cake, choco chip cookie with vanilla ice cream, apple crumble pie, creme brulee and the one that has stood the test of time- gulab jamun.
Despite all the specialties, restaurant is reasonably priced with meal for two costing just Rs 1600/- approx with a round of beer.
Giving idea about the interior and exterior design he said that there is a shutter which gives an illusion of walking into a dockyard. As one moves outdoors, a green wall on both sides lights up the whole space. Further outdoors have Zen like tranquility where the chill and the plants set the mood for a perfect night out with friends and family.
