School of Public Health, PGI organize Dengue Camp at Public Health Dispensary Sec-25

Chandigarh 15th July:- To create awareness regarding prevention and control of vector borne diseases like Malaria & Dengue, a heath camp was organized at Public Health Dispensary, Sec-25 by Department of Community Medicine, School of Public Health, PGI in collaboration with Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme(IDSP) & National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme(NVBDCP), Chandigarh unit. The camp was attended by all the community stakeholders including the area Pradhan, members of Youth Technical Training Society (YTTS) and Swarnjayanti Shahri Rojgaar Yojna(SSRY), NGOs JAGORI and Family Planning Association of India(FPAI), Muslim groups, Aanganwadi and ASHA workers and members and staff of sec 25 dispensary and Malaria control unit, UT Chandigarh.

The camp commenced with an Entomological Exhibition by Dev Singh (MPHW) and team on dengue & malaria vectors displaying the life cycle of mosquitoes, their breeding sites, and live samples of larvae and adult mosquitoes. The function started with welcome note by Dr. Vandana Diwan, Training Consultant, IDSP who greeted all dignitaries and highlighted that the rainy season is a high transmission time for malaria and dengue. Dr Anil Garg, Assistant Director, Malaria (NVDCP) & IDSP, informed the audience that tests & treatment for malaria and dengue are available free of cost at all the dispensaries. The chief Guest, Dr Rajesh Kumar, Professor & Head, Deptt of Community Medicine, PGIMER discussed the measures for dengue prevention and control. He also said that malaria staff would go house to house to check cooler & tanks and warning and would be issued if mosquito larvae are found in them. Dr Urvi Sharma and Dr Abu Bashar, Senior & Junior Residents, Deptt of Community Medicine, PGI highlighted the achievements of PHD-25 in last one year and services being provided currently. They also announced the future initiatives which will be be taken for improving the services at the dispensary and making it a model primary care centre.  A Street play titled" Dengue ka Ant" was then acted by children from government model school, sec-25 which was directed by Dr Bashar, Kamal Behl (MPHW) & Miss Heena, co-ordinator JAGORI which emphasized the need to prevent breeding sites of mosquitoes to prevent dengue. Dr. Rajesh thanked all the participants and asked for their co-operation in order to prevent and control dengue menace in the community. Finally, a Dengue awareness rally was flagged off from the dispensary.
