Chandigarh Administration and School of Public Health, PGI Celebrates World Population Day

Chandigarh 16th July:- Chandigarh administration in association with Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGI, Chandigarh celebrated World Population Day in Burail Village on 16thJuly , 2015. About 100 women including pregnant ladies, lactating mother and women in reproductive age group participated in this event. Dr Krishna Chaudhary, Senior Medical Officer, Urban Community Health Center, sector 45, told about the public health problem of increasing population in India, Dr Madhu Gupta, Associate Professor of Community Medicine, PGI made the women aware about temporary and permanent contraception methods to regulate fertility by couples and Dr Drishti Sharma, Senior Resident, Department of Community Medicine, PGI talked about the effects of multiple births on the health of women which include maternal death. ANMs of Urban Community Health Center presented a skit to the audience on the issue of having a large family size. Earlier, about 50 students from Government Senior Secondary School, Sector-45 enthusiastically participated in the Poster Competition on the theme 'World Population Day', out of which three students were selected for 1st, 2nd& 3rd Prizes.
