Chandigarh 17th January:- A one day continuing medical education programme was organized today by the department of Radiodiagnosis, PGI, Chandigarh under the able guidance of Prof. N.Khandelwal, Head of department and Chairperson, Prof. Mandeep Kang, Organizing Secretary of the CME and Dr. Naveen Kalra and Dr. Anupam Lal, Joint Organizing Secretaries of the CME. The CME was held under the aegis of Chandigarh, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh State Branch of the Indian Society of Vascular and Interventional Radiology. This programme is the first of its kind being conducted in a government hospital in the country. The concept of the programme is to train radiology postgraduates in the region who do not get a chance to do interventional radiology in their parent institute.
In the morning there was a workshop and hands on training session for the postgraduates on the techniques of angiography and angioplasty using an angiosimulator. This was conducted by the master trainer Prof. Sanjiv Sharma, Head, Deptt. of Cardiovascular Radiology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, Dr. Vivek Gupta and Dr. Mukesh Yadav from the department of Radiodiagnosis, PGI, Chandigarh. The student delegates got a chance to simulate the procedures on the angiosimulator and get a feel of the hardware required for the procedure. During the course of the day there were also extensive lectures on the interventional techniques for treatment of stroke infected collections, sampling of abnormal tissue and locoregional treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma. The programme ended with an interactive session between the trainers and the conference delegates.
