NAMS AWARDS FOR 3 PGI FACULTY

Chandigarh 23rd  September:- Prof. Kim Vaiphei, Department of Histopathology has been elected as Fellow of National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) India for the year 2013.  Dr Jyotdeep Kaur, Additional Professor, Department of Biochemistry and Dr. Sonu Goel, Assistant Professor of Health Management in School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh have been selected as members of the Academy.

Prof. Kim Vaiphei, Department of Histopathology PGIMER has been elected as Fellow of the Academy by National Academy of Medical Sciences (India) for the year 2013.  She has been elected for her extensive contribution for the advancement in medical sciences with specialization in the field of pathology concerning gastroenterology related diseases.  Dr. Kim Vaiphei was also awarded recently the "Dr R M Kasliwal Award" by the same organization for her significant research contributions in colon and rectal diseases. 

Dr Jyotdeep Kaur, Additional Professor, Department of Biochemistry, PGIMER has been awarded the prestigious membership of 'National Academy of Medical Sciences (India)' for her distinguished research work. She has extensively studied the regulatory mechanisms of folate absorptions under conditions of alcoholism, folate deficiency and supplementation revealing the underlying molecular and epigenetic mechanisms and first time reported folate transporters' association with membrane lipid rafts.  Additionally, she has carried out work on genetic susceptibility and epigenetics of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Dr. Sonu Goel, Assistant Professor of Health Management in School of Public Health has been bestowed with prestigious membership of National Academy of Medical Science. He had earlier received fellowships of Indian Public Health Association and International Medical Sciences Academy. He is also a fellow of John Hopkins School of Public Health, U.S. He had conducted around 20 research projects and published over 40 papers in indexed national and international journals. He has edited 2 post graduate level books, 6 booklets for public on general topics and contributed 20 chapters in various books. His prime areas of work are tobacco control, human resource in health and health system development.
