Chandigarh 22nd July:-- The Management of Chandigarh Golf Club inaugurated a Tree Plantation Drive on 22nd July at 6pm at the Club. This 'Green Initiative' undertaken by Chandigarh Golf Club envisages planting of approximately 650 saplings in the various roughs along the fairways. The success of the last years plantation drive encouraged even more members this year to get personally involved in the plantation drive. President of the club Gurinderjit Sandhu said "there were a large number of members of all ages who came ahead and volunteered by donating money, donating saplings and others their time to take part in the plantation process itself".
Different flowering, medicinal and perennial green trees were planted by the members and special care was taken by choosing and planting only those trees which don't adversely affect the playing conditions by fruit drop or leaf shedding. Since the Chandigarh Golf Course gets a lot of deer that come on to graze at night hence those select saplings were planted during this plantation drive that are not the preferred diet of the deer" added Bobby Sandhu, Captain of the course. Last year a lot of Alstonia tree saplings were planted and there has been great success in their growth. These saplings that are a year old now are thriving and doing exceptionally well. Chandigarh Golf Club is also one of the worlds most played courses and continuous efforts are being made to replace trees which have died on account of natural causes or disease
