Chandigarh 25th July:--- With a view to develop the interest of students and to enhance their mental abilities in the subject of Mathematics, school level Mathematics Quiz-2013 would be organized for classes 9th and 10th in all schools of Haryana on August 3, 2013.
While stating this here today, a spokesman of State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Haryana said that Math's Quiz would give opportunities to enhance the understanding of the students in the concepts and principles of mathematics. He said that the Quiz would ensure the participation of the entire class as each student would be given the chance to ask questions or answer them. He said that the class would be divided into four groups. Each group would have the same number of fast learners and slow learners. The holding of Maths quiz would also develop a competitive spirit among students, he added. To make it more interesting, Math's Tombola and Math's Cross word puzzles would be created. He said that all the students would become active participants in construction of new knowledge rather than being passive receivers. This would be a part of assessment of their teaching and know about the achievement of the students, he further added. He said that the feedback based on the analysis of the students' responses would help teachers in further improving their quality of classroom instructions. He said that some questions are expected to challenge the understanding of the concepts of mathematics of the students and their ability in applying them to novel solutions. He said that problems would be arranged with different difficulty level assess and improve the teaching learning process in the classroom.
The spokesman said that SCERT has also issued guidelines for smooth conduct of Mathematics Quiz. District Education Officers (DEOs) of all the districts in the State have been asked to ensure that one Math specialists from each district remain present at the Council on July 29 to obtain guidelines for organising Quiz. He said that in each school, separate Quiz would be organized for the students of every section of classes 9th and 10th. The Quiz would be completed in five rounds. He said that two students of classes 9th and 10th would be selected to participate in Block level examination. The DEOs would disseminate the information regarding math's quiz to all the schools by July 27, 2013.
