Chandigarh 30th October:- World Stroke Day was celebrated by Urban Health Training Centre (UHTC), Department of Community Medicine, School of Public Health, PGI, Chandigarh at Anganwadi Centre, Indira Colony, Chandigarh. The theme for the year 2015 is "I Am Woman".
Under the guidance of Prof. JS Thakur, this celebration was organized by Dr.Kathirvel.S (Senior Resident), Dr. Shuchi Mahajan (Junior Resident) and other paramedical staff of Department of Community Medicine, School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh. There was a gathering of around 15 anganwadi workers and helpers belonging to Indira Colony area, 20 women from the "Women Skill Development and Health Promotion Centre" and number of non communicable disease patients who are registered at UHTC, Indira Colony. Welcome address was given by Dr. Kathirvel.S. Introduction to world stroke day 2015 and its current theme on woman was explained by Dr. Suchi Mahajan (Junior Resident). She explained why the theme is on woman and their risk to stroke in detail. Dr. Kathirvel.S explained the gathering about how stroke is happening, risk factors, clinical symptoms during stroke, and post stroke complications. He also told the gathering about how early it should be reported in case of stroke. He explained in detail about the prevention of risk factors for stroke and even stressed on primordial prevention. The gathering was also told about the non communicable disease clinic at UHTC, Indira Colony and the need for regular clinical follow up and compliance to medications. The gathering was also asked to share the information with family members and neighbors as much as possible. The session was quite interactive in which the doctor cleared the doubts of the anganwadi workers on issues related to unusual symptoms and hospitals to visit in case of stroke.
