In order to observe and celebrate the Swachhta Pakhwada of Government of India from 16.01.2024 to 31.01.2024, office of Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Review Unit-1 of the Income Tax Department, Chandigarh and NSS Cell of Government College of Education (GCE) Sector 20 Chandigarh in collaboration with the Parijat ECO Club organized a tree plantation drive at the Government College of Education (GCE) premises. One Hundred saplings of Ficus Benjamina, contributed by contributed by Shri Rahul Mahajan, founder of Organic Sharing Foundation Chandigarh, were planted during the event. The tree plantation drive aimed to promote environmental awareness and encourage sustainable practices amongst the society.
Dr. Sapna Nanda, Principal, Government College of Education (GCE) welcomed the guests. The tree plantation drive witnessed the active participation of esteemed organizers, including Dr. G.S. Phani Kishore (Principal Commissioner of Income Tax - Review Unit 1, Chandigarh), Smt. Poonam Rai (Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax), Sh. Anirudh (Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax), and Sh. D.S.Chauhan (Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax). Their presence and support played a crucial role in the success of the event. The drive also saw the enthusiastic involvement of IRS Officer Trainees, who graciously attended the event. The IRS Officer Trainees who were present during the event were Ms. Chandni Chauhan, Mr. Raj Vikram, Ms. Sonia Kataria, Ms. Sandhya Partap, Mr. Suchiter Sharma and Mr. Umesh Kumar. Students and faculty of GCE also planted the saplings.
The participants, armed with shovels and saplings, planted trees around the college campus. The selected tree species were carefully chosen to enhance the green cover and biodiversity of the area. Dr. G.S.Phani Kishore expressed his gratitude towards the college, participants, and everyone involved in making the event a resounding success. He said that cleanliness and green initiatives go hand in hand for a sustainable environment. This tree plantation drive not only contributed to the beautification of the college campus but also served as a small step towards combating climate change and preserving our ecosystem. Four students of Eco Club – Shivam Jha, Sachi, Paras and Amrinder Kaur- were felicitated for their contribution in promoting green initiatives.
The college, along with its collaborators, is committed to organizing such events in the future, aiming to create a greener and healthier environment for all.
