Chandigarh, Jan.19, 2024:- Dr Malkit Singh Jandiala, regarded as a stalwart of Hindustani classical Ragas, enthralled the audience with his sublime performance at Tagore Theatre here today, leaving them spellbound. Dr Malkit recited one 'raga' of Shri Guru Granth Sahib.
The performance, organised by Polo Hindustani Art Heritage and Cultural Trust along with Pracheen Kala Kendra, saw a huge response from art and music lovers of tricity, who thronged the city's iconic Tagore Theatre to relish the ragas of Dr Malkit Singh Jandiala.
The Chief Guest of the event was Justice Vinod S Bhardwaj, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court. Sardar Charan Singh Sapra, former Trustee of Hazur Sahib, released a book on Gurmat Sangeet penned by Dr Malkit Singh - 'Aadi Granth Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ka Raag Prabandh' in both Sanskrit and Hindi.
Dr Malkit Singh, a highly acclaimed Hindustani classical music artist, said that he is overwhelmed at the people's response. He just cannot believe that they have so much interest in listening to ragas. It is a great sign as we need to make collective efforts to keep our heritage and legacy alive for the coming generations.
Amardeep Singh Dahiya, Founder, Polo Hindustani Art Heritage and Cultural Trust, which is doing a yeoman's service by exposing Indian art forms to a wider audience, said that living up to his reputation simply brilliantly, Dr Singh's performance was captivating. In an incredible manner, he took the audience on a melodic journey that transcended boundaries and resonated with the timeless essence of classical music.
Reflecting on the response from young boys and girls, Dahiya said that the objective of the evening was to make youth aware of Indian traditions with a motive to promote the true tradition of Hindustani music among them in order to bring them into the mainstream and connect them to the rich Indian musical ethos.
Lifetime Achievement Awards were also presented to Gurmeet Singh Shant, Hajuri Ragi, Shri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar; Dr Shibha Koser, Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee & Senior Kathak Guru; Dr Pankaj Mala Sharma, Ex Dean and Chairperson, PU and Pandit Kale Ram Ji, Great Tabla Maestro, Punjab Gharana.
Sajal Koser, Secretary, Pracheen Kala Kendra, said that Music enthusiasts in tricity had an evening of sublime melodies and artistic brilliance as Dr Malkit Singh graced the Tagore Theatre stage with his musical prowess.
Dr Malkit Singh was accompanied by national and international artists showcasing their expertise in Tabla, Guitar, Sarangee, and Harmonium. Ustad Akram Khan of Ajrada Gharana was on Tabla, Sumit Mishra from Banaras on harmonium, and Murad Ali Khan, grandson of the wonderful Moradabad Sarangiya Siddiqui Ahmed Khan, on Sarangee.
