Chandigarh August 27, 2021:- In keeping with the spirit of Swachhta Pakhwada- the fortnight long programme aimed at promoting the cause of Swachhta, the NSS units of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh organised several Swachhta related activities both at individual as well as community level. The activities undertaken by the volunteers included plantation drives, and cleaning of parks and roads in the vicinity of their respective places. During the plantation drive, volunteers planted saplings of green purifying plants and segregated waste into dry and wet waste.
Under this programme, all the NSS volunteers also took a pledge to keep their surroundings clean. In order to prevent the spread of malaria and dengue, volunteers discarded disposable things and containers at their respective places that contained stagnant water and could act as breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Besides, they also motivated their neighbours to contribute towards the cause of Swachhta by organising mass cleanliness drives in their respective places. They removed weeds from their surrounding parks and discarded waste in appropriate bins. In addition, in order to curb the spread of COVID-19, volunteers spread awareness regarding the correct way of washing hands. All these activities were organised by following COVID-19 appropriate behaviour.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava lauded the efforts of NSS for affecting behavioural change among the citizens with respect to Swachhta. She added that having had the honour of being ranked the number one Cleanest College in the country, MCM's commitment to the cause of Swachhta is reflected in its various initiatives and sustainable practices aimed at contributing towards a cleaner and greener planet.
