Chandigarh 30th August:- The team of Punjabi film 'Toofan Singh' held a press conference here today and raised many questions on the activities of the Censor Board. The team blamed the board for not issuing any certificate to the film without any solid reason. The producer of the film Jarnail Singh, director Baghel Singh, main lead Ranjit Bawa, Bollywood actor Yashpal Sharma, Sardar Sohi and Suneeta Dhir were all present here.
Co-producer and director of the film said that the film is based on the life of Bhai Jugraj Singh aka Toofan Singh. According to him, the film has been made by producer Dilbagh Singh under the banner of Royal Cine Arts has nothing to do with any particular religion or community. Bhai Jugraj Singh was a warrior who fought with anti-social elements and freed the society from many evils. This film doesn't pin-point on any religion or individual's feelings. The Censor Board is not issuing any certificate and has no reason for that.
The team of the film told that a five-member committee of the CBFC watched the film initially out of which three members denied issuing the certificate and hence recommended the film to the Chairman and higher authorities. After watching the film, the Chairman and higher level officials didn't take any decision on the certification. The film was later sent to the Tribunal from where the final decision is awaited.
Lead actor of the film Ranjit Bawa said that he worked very hard for this character. There is nothing in the film that would hurt anyone's feelings. CBFC is just supposed to issue the certificate and rest of the decision should be in audiences' hands.
Yashpal Sharma also condemned the poor attitude of the board and said that many social realities don't reach the masses because of such decisions. Sardar Sohi said that such activities are nothing but a fraud with the art. In the end the whole team said in one tone that they will fight every battle to get the film released.
